If you wanted to change wood finish I would HIGHLY recommend using a vinyl wrap, it is so easy and the choices of wood grain are infinite. And the vinyl wouldn't feel like wood it would not feel like vinyl either-if you know what I mean.

You probably wouldn't even need to remove the wood to apply vinyl.

But, if you really wanted to change wood color with real wood then definitely get the veneer with PSA, almost as easy as vinyl and also has endless varieties.
Thanks for the info, Andy. One more quick question- when I do get to this step, do you suggest vinyl over a PSA Veneer solely because of the ease of application, or is there another reason behind it? I'm willing to take the time to do it right, and I love the thought of real wood on the ski slope, even if it is just a veneer. The prices I'm finding for veneers, though, are pretty expensive and I'm guessing vinyl would be cheaper by far.

Where did you get yours from, if you don't mind me asking? I'm sure you did your research and got the best!

I think I goggled PSA veneer, don't recall the specific website but I recall them being mostly similar. I think I bought a 4'x8' sheet and it was about $125. If you were clever with measuring and cutting I think you could make a 2'x8' sheet work. But I'd rather waste money on extra material so i don't have to wait if i make a mistake.

The vinyl is more forgiving and easier to apply, along with requiring no finishing. But, if you care about real wood then then you'd likely never be satisfied with a vinyl wrap.

For example, on the door panels I included two strips of black wood to add an effect similar to the original door wood. After I took the time to cut the wood and match the edges and glue it down I realized that I may have well as drawn two black lines with a Sharpie. Except! I woulda always known it wasn't real.

Andy,
I just saw a pic of your car in a Facebook post from a page called "Found On The Street". Just goes to show you that people notice quality.
Here is a link to the photo:

Sweet!
This is going to inspire me to finally gather all of my build photos in one post connected to this one (I made a mistake using links to external pic hosting and now many pics are gone).

Andy,

You must have moved or renamed your original source Photobucket folders?

If you put the photos back where they were on Photobucket, the links in your posts will work again.

Congrats again, Andy. Some of the things which amaze me the most about this build, is how quickly you completed it, how well it turned out, and, some of the materials you re-purposed for the project (ie: a truck roof, glass beads in truck bed liner, etc.), and, the list goes on & on.

About a year ago a stranger knocked on my door and asked, "Is that your Jaguar?" I said that it was and he introduced himself and said that he was a professional photographer and would like to "shoot it" sometime. I said, "You got it" and gave him my number. Fast forward to a few weeks ago after the stars aligned and Matt picked up the Jaguar Shooting Brake and here are the results:

Saw this post on the forum front page this morning, and have just read through the entire thing before breakfast. At the start of the thread I was a bit worried that it might end up with a post along the lines of "ran out of time/money/ability/desire and parted the car out/sold to crusher" but that never happened. I was also wondering "how the hell is that ever going to look good?" Well, that was how, I guess. There's a huge amount of information (skill, experience, knowledge) that hasn't been shown (a lot is akin to magic to me: Andy raised his magic welder, shouted "Mergus metallus!" and the roof was complete), and the whole thing would have made a fascinating television episode.
Very moody dramatic photos--except he's called it a "Lynx Eventor [sic]". But forward the link to that Eventer specialist sceptic in France anyway....

You know how people say "don't quit your day job"? You should quit your day job.

Hello Andy

I am with Some Day, Some Day.

Read the post from page 1 to page 19, I knew the car was finished - therefore didn't have the fear of the unfinished project fear.

Unbelievable job - especially after the hiccup with the bus - just got in there and fixed her up again.

I have done nothing on my rebuild in the last 2 weeks - pretty sure I will get back into her this week after reading this post though

Cheers
Steve

I randomly thought about this thread last night & have just read through it all again. This by far my favourite build thread on all of the internet. I'd love to do my own Lynx Eventer rep, one day..
Hope you're still enjoying the car.

Having just gone through this thread I must say that in my opinion this looks even better than the Eventer. I thought the Arden version looked spectacular but this, with the skinny chrome bumpers is absolutely gorgeous. What outrageous skills you have!
