Hmmm . . . must confess I have only ever used well compressed rag followed by one of those highly absorbent kitchen wipes. Must say that risk of "squashed *****" brings tears to my eyes, so I like Carl's idea of duct tape. Drat! Does this mean I gotta feel guilty when I forget and just use rags & wipes?

Rags work well. But I take the fingers from surgical gloves (or condoms if that is all you have) and stretch them over the end of the rag before inserting them.

 

Hey Clarke . . . hearing the rumble of a thousand possible replies to that helpful post about alternative uses for condoms, I will burnish my halo, click on the thanks button, and settle for saying . . . "Gosh! What a great idea!!!"

Actually, and I kick myself for not addressing the following to Alan in my earlier post . . . please hit us with some pics as you progress with your V12. Having been there long ago with our then Daimler V12 VDP, I bet you will be mightily impressed with the collection of spring washers, assorted spanners and slow pedestrians that fell into that area of the huge metal thingy called "engine" that was shoehorned into these beautiful carriages.

You will be greeted by admiration from those who have never owned a V12 (and thus, still sleep at night); by dread from those who have (and hide in the corner whenever they hear a strange noise); and by hearty bravado from our guru, Grant Francis, aka the Wizard of Oz (who still denies he invented the damn things). Grant is a very shy chap; hails from Adelaide; but really does excel on these things as any good review of both this and especially the XJ-S forum, will demonstrate. Now that I have embarrassed him out of hiding, I'm sure he will put down his adult beverage to join us and encourage you in your quest.

BTW, you live in an area purpose planned for these loping beasts, although my late wife and I found our constant travels across the Hay Plains an even more tempting proving ground for the V12 Daimler & E-Type.

Oh boy, just spilled the "adult beverage" all over the laptop, THANKS CLARKE, really made my night.

I used tightly screwed up newspaper, dampened in Kerosene, and use a p/pack degreaser and a tooth brush, and then rinse with one of those garden pump up sprayers very carefully.

Same for the dizzy hole.

Once all back together, and it needs a clean, simply spray it with degreaser, and hit it with the garden hose.

HOWEVER

If you have NOT done the "catch up" properly, AKA Aussie standards, you will drown the thing.

I wash all mine as needed, EXCEPT the S Type V6's, coz the STUPID holes where the spark plugs live are NOT water tight, and have had no issues so far.

Faith, ya gotta have faith.
