My sister and I are making a fast run to Greenville, SC this weekend-- wondering if there are any 'must see/do' along I-85.. Betwixt Eastern VA & SC?

Along I-85, you just hit the edges of North Carolina's three mega-city clusters. They have sights to see, but big cities are mostly just generic.

Asheville, NC, an hour north of Greenville, is the shining star. You have beautiful mountain vistas, great restaurants and a very active artistic community. Touring The Biltmore--the largest private home in the U.S--is very much worth the trip. The Blue Ridge Parkway south and west of Asheville is so breathtaking at daybreak--it'll make you purrrr.

 

Scott Jaguar in Charlotte has a really nice 2006 STR for sale, your sister can drive it back for your hubby!!!

Not really kitty, but you will love the quaint little town of Greenville if you 2 have never been there before!

I've been through Greenville, but never spent any time there.

 

Kitty: Greenville is not too small and not too large. The area has a great economy (BMW and supporting companies), and there are decent restaurants, etc. There are incredible mountain lakes to the West, and there are a bunch of very high line Golf/Country Club communities filled with semi-mansions in the foothills of the mountains. Gary Player liked it so much, he moved his whole golf course architecture firm there. Those people go ape over Clemson University--just west of Greenville.

 

Ran up to DC yesterday with Hubs and my sister & her hubs, and discovered another awesome perk to the Jag-comfy back seats.

After benevelantly allowing the tall people to ride up front-- Sister and I were both comfortable after a 150 mile (plus rush hour interstate parking) ride in the back--we're both usually climbing the walls/begging to drive/offering to walk after a drive like that.

Disappointed that all this rain will probly prevent me from giving the Jag a proper wash/wax before hitting the road Saturday.

I did always think it looked a little 'cracked' lol
My kids call that the "time to eat peach" when we used to travel between Mississippi and Maryland/Virginia because Gaffney was in just the right place to stop for food.

Found this gem tonight in Greenville!! Very cool! (Also spent the day cruising and harassing other Jag drivers-- Really nice XK convertible just outside of Gaffney =D

 

I kinda knew that you would like Greenville, the falls are beautiful. The family and I were there Dec. 2010. We will be heading back soon for another weekender.

 

So how was the road trip Kitty? Did your S Type perform flawlessly? Did you take in anyother sites, shopping etc.....

 

The car ran great! Not a single issue--unless you count the inability to stay near the speed limit without cruise control. =D

Even the gas mileage was really good-- averaged 26/27 mpg and you don't feel like you've been in the car for hours when you get where you're going.

And we didn't really make it anywhere but Falls Park as we got in Saturday afternoon and left Sunday morning (I really mean flying trip) but we've made plans to go back again and see/do more. But while we were there we did have a nice dinner at the Overlook Grill, watched the street performers and had a nice carriage ride thru Greenville.. about as exciting as you can get with a tweenager and a puppy in tow.
