this code came up today p0037 does anybody know what it is and where it is

Kelv, the P0037 code is a generic code for a problem with the downstream O2 sensor for Bank 1. For your car, Bank 1 is the side between the engine and the firewall. The downstream sensor is going to be the one mounted near the bottom of the catalytic converter. Odds are, to fix this issue, you will need to install a new O2 sensor. Granted, do a once over of the wiring to make sure that you don't have the wires for the O2 sensor shorted together.

I'm about to tackle a sensor change as I also have the P0037 error code but before I buy the part... Ł78 from eBay... I found someone selling universal pattern parts that apparantly just need the 4 wires hooking up to the original wiring plug for Ł25.
I'm really bad at explaining things! Maybe this will help?

i changed the downstream sensor on saturday and cleared code and alls now good but what a **** job it was. nearly impossible to do i managed to bend a 22mm spanner and weld a socket on the end so i could get my long bar onto it. if anybody else is doing this sensor make sure you have the proper tools because it is not easy. krisfx if you have the same code i had make sure the sensor on ebay is the downstream sensor and not the upstream sensor because i think they are not the same.

Once I find out if the universal lambda sensor will work I think I'll start spraying the old one with wd40 every day for a few days. Can only help.

So does anyone know how easy it is to wire in one of the sensors I linked to above? There is a slight colour difference between the looms.

There are a few aftermarlet guys here on the forum, Jagbits come to mind but you're better served to get a proper downstream O2 sensor that to **** around with a universal. I bought a universal for my BMW, it fit, I grafted the wires off the old sensor onto the new one, installed it and voila, after a week the same code came up. I went to a dealer, paid 78.00 for the proper one and it never came back.

Also WD40 won't do anything, spray liquid wrench or penetrating oil on it, do it when it's warm not hot and it'll work better. Then get a 22MM wrench on it or better yet a 6 point socket and just try every day to loosen it.

I have read these posts over and over, and for whatever reason, I cannot grasp which O2 sensor I need to troubleshoot.

I know there are 4 sensors, two close to the engine, two farther from the engine. The question that I have, is which sensor pertains to the P0037 error?

I can see two sensors while standing in front of the car looking into the engine compartment, however, if I am looking a the correct parts, one is on the left and one is on the right, side of the engine, close to the firewall. This is in reference to me standing in front of the car looking at the engine.

 

Got it! My error turned out to be the sensor downstream or behind catalytic converter on the passenger' s side.

It also turns out there are two connector types for this model: a round cylinder share and a rectangular shape. The rectangular, DENSO 234-4798 Oxygen Sensor fit, and was $76.00 including shipping on eBay. As usual, ook longer to jack up car, add support jacks and crawl under, than it did to loosen and replace.

Using my little ELM327 and Torque, I could see the correct voltages, no P0037 error code, and no engine light.
