Default stuck in park wont start 03 x-type

i parked on a incline the other day and it was real hard to shift in reverse and it banged when it finally went. i hear this can cause a clip on the shift cable to break or lock up at the transmission side. but ive been able to shift it fine since ( 2 weeks now)

now the car is outside my shop and after a few key offs and ons i was able to move it and park it out of the way but now i cant take it from park or start it up and the battery is fine. im getting a gearbox fault message. anyone have this issue?

Had that message come up while installing my dvd, bumped the shifter. Car wouldn't start ( gear box fault) same thing. Ultimately unhooked the battery and let it sit for about 20min. Reconnected the battery, started no problems since.

PS If you ever need to move it from Park (say to neutral for towing? or incase the selector solenoid fails) lift the gaitor surround and there is a lever on the side of the selector mechanism which allows movement out of park when pressed in

yes thank you guys, and i read your write up on your sunday morning hotwire to the solenoid interesting. luckily after installing the radio the issue disappeared for good, i almost feared i was going to have to buy a new jgate assembly ($400) just for the solenoid.

I still dont get why its so bloody hard for us to find wireing kits or faceplates for radio installations on our jags. i wouldnt have had it not been for this site.

Thanks Jamey, as long as everyone helps each other, our only car trouble will be getting in there and doing it.

Do you know why this worked? Having a similar problem (although re-occuring) so I'm just curious... (see https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...neutral-83920/ )

Thanks.
