Hi guys its been a long time i posted, still have the same jag, working fine until 2 days ago the vegas heat came in, 3 digits.
stoped at the store and when i came out started the car ,dash temp. lighting up and was close to red. looked under the hood and the fans was not kicking in even if i put on the a/c on full blast.
looked for relays but there is none ,i was suspecting the fan control module after reading some of the posts in here but
i checked the fans and looks like the left fan is stuck doesn't even move if i try to turn it by hand ,the right side moves freely. Looks like the fan is seized up? I dont see anything to be stuck in there its hard to see down there.
any way to swap out just the fan or its gonna be the whole assembly?
checked ebay i could get it around $150-200 with the control module.
Now for the hard part, is it possible to take the whole assembly from the top ? don't have access to any diy mechanic shop and also i cant drive the car more than 2 miles and not much mechanics around me. And probably the cost would be close to 1k or more if a shop would do it.
haven't found any instructions or videos on removing just the fan assembly.
Any recommendation where to start or look for any other stuff why the fan is not moving ?
A fan motor can lock up if a bearing seizes or a magnet cracks and blocks the rotor or some debris gets through the vent holes. All rare but not unheard of. When a fan or motor seizes you would get a large current spike which likely blew a fuse, relay, and/or the control module. Assuming you are lucky you might have a blown fuse. If that is the case you could unplug just the connector to the seized fan motor and it is possible the other fan will kick on with a new fuse in place. Or you could temporarily bypass the fan control and wire the fan that still spins to turn on whenever the engine is on. That won't solve your problems but will give you a lot more than a 2 mile range to drive without overheating.
Thanks for the reply, i ended up buying a used fan assembly from the junkyard with the control module ,hope that one is working.
what fuse i can check ? Where is that fuse location? Couldnt find any other fuse than the F16 -radiator fans speed control.
Because you have a 2004, it depends on manufacturing date (2004 versus 2004.25 = before April 2004 and after April 2004). The fuse is in the engine compartment fuse box.
thanks for everyone for the replies !
car got fixed ,we were able to just swap out the seized up fan from the top and not the whole assembly and also got the control module swapped out just in case.
everything working as it should and hope stays like that after couple of days driving !
Glad to hear you got it sorted. Out of curiosity which fan/motor was it that failed? You mentioned left fan, is that left from driver perspective or left from standing at the front of the car working on the fan? The fan on the driver side of mine made an odd noise yesterday, I'm thinking my fan motor bearing is at its end.
driver side ,just where the control module are.
that's how it started, making funny noise and the fans was running few minutes after i shot down the engine a bunch of time. it wasn't cooling efficiently.
i knew it will go someday and first hot day of the year it went.....
i spent only $70 usd. for the parts.
