05 X-type 3.0 Gearbox Fault Issues
Hey guys back in August of last year I got the 05 x-type 3.0 with 69K on it. Currently it is at 84K and about a month or two back I got the gearbox fault message so I pulled the car over, turned it off and then started and it the car ran fine. The other day the issue happened again so I tried to see if turning the car off would solve the issue. The message was no longer there however when I reached about 15-20 MPH the message came back up and the check engine light also appeared. I tried the turn off and start again, and the message does not appear but the check engine light is still on though, however when I reach 15-20 MPH the message continues to come up. I am not too well versed in auto repairs. Has anyone encountered similar issues or have any ideas what this may be?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
This issue appears to occasionally happen when it is wet out, which I also seen mentioned in previous threads. Yesterday was a nice day so I tried taking it for a spin and the car worked perfectly fine. The check engine light as well as the gearbox fault message are no longer there.
Are there any recommendations/solutions to prevent this issue from happening?

Can you tell if the windshield has been replaced? There has been talk about computer problems after windshield replacements when the sealant hasn't worked well

I appreciate the response. I have had the physical windshield replaced twice since getting the car last august. A local replacement service came out and handled it. Are there any solutions for this? Thanks
This could be due to water draining directly onto the ECU. A simple solution would be to wrap it in a durable plastic bag and seal it up as best you can so the water will run off it. You'll have to get some diagrams to find it's exact location, etc. but it's been done before.
I've had similar problems, however i do not believe the windshield has ever been replaced. It has happened to me sporadically for about 2 months, and now it has been fine for the last 3 months. I'm going to try "sealing" the ECU...lets see if this works...

So, it is currently -23 F outside here in frozen Minnesota. I started and ran my car yesterday for a few minutes & it did fine, though a little slow to turn over. I went to start it today & it will not start and throws the Gear Box Fault code. Many of these posts mention water being an issue... but we are dry here & frozen so I don't believe that is the problem for me. What are your thoughts?
