2002 X-type Deal of a lifetime
Hi Everyone,
New to the forum, and new to a 2002 X-type. I found it posted for sale online in July, and at the time did not have the time or money to pursue. Anyways, yesterday I went and purchased the car, which did not run due to a gearbox fault message. I have a lot of experience with cars so I buy non-running cars often. The man I bought it from had changed computers to no avail. So I had it towed and hour and a half back to my house where I found a blown fuse under the hood. I replaced it, and all messages went away, but now a security message appeared. So I was lucky enough that the original computers came with the car, and when I swapped them back into the car it started right up! It took me 10 minutes to fix and I had a near perfect jag for $1100.
Now for my questions...
Im going to change the oil, the transfer case is leaking so I need to pull the driveshaft off and put sealant in there, and change the oil in it. I also want to do the trans fluid, and the front and rear diff. Anything else I should consider? This is going to be my driver from now on so I need it to run like a watch. It already runs great, but I love preventative maintenance. Anyways I have fallen in love with this car Its the best vehicle I have ever driven by far in terms of handling and general ride feel.

Im 30 minutes south of Pittsburgh. After driving the car about 500 miles a few things have come up.
I fixed the leaking transfer case and put 600ml of oil in it, changed fluid in the rear diff, change the oil. It appears that I have the air door actuator problem. so I will be fixing that today, because on my way to school this morning at 80mph the windows fogged up to the point of not being able to see anything. other than that the car runs great, still have to do the tranny fluid, cant decide on royal purple or the dealer fluid which I can get for $36 a quart. Im also going to be putting drilled and slotted rotors and new pads on the car eventually, and I would like to put 18" Proteus wheels on it as well.

I don't know if there is a step-by-step DIY set of illustrated instructs for the flapper door. It is a common enuff experience that any pics you click of the process and procedure will be of GREAT benefit to this small community, jag87!
And do post a few of your new, greatest "steal of a deal" X-Type, please!
