Based on the code, I would be placing money on the ABS sensor, not the metal ring. The code is for the right rear ABS sensor input error. So, which is more likely to fail, a plastic sensor with numerous parts or a metal ring that is one piece? You can probably switch the sensors around a little bit (between the rear sensors or the sensors on the passenger side) to see if the problem stays with the same wheel or if it moves. If it moves, then that garantees that the problem is the sensor. If it doesn't move, then you are looking at a possible bad ring but could also be a wiring issue.

Unfortunately, without some fancy electronic tools, the wiring aspect is probably beyond a normal persons abililty to diagnose.

If you need more help, just hollar.

too much work.. you can jack up your car and look in with a light or pop sensor out.. and look for a crack in the ring.. i ve only replaced one wheel speed sensor for the rear.. and about 25 outer cv joints.. so i wud believe its a cv joint..

I know this is an ancient thread, but I removed my right rear sensor and cleaned it when I had the wheel off. In my haste, I forgot to plug it back in. I got the P1165 code the next time I started the car. Reinstalling the sensor and resetting the code with an OBDII tool made it go away.
