Default 2002 X-Type Security Module

I've got a 2002 X-Type and when it hot out (95F+), which since I live in Texas means everyday from June 1 to September 15, I get a security module failure message when I first try to start the car. To get it started, I have to roll down the windows and wait 5 to 10 minutes for the inside to cool down before the car will start. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have a solution? I understand that security modules are expensive; does anyone know if a used security module can be used to replace my security module or does Jaguar have to recite some secret incantation to make a new security module work? Thanks,

Mark

I never did get any response to my original question however I found a used security module on eBay for a good price so I just went ahead a bought it. Now my question is has anyone replaced a security module? Is there anything of which I should be aware before I do this replacement? Any advice would be welcome.

mjlaris, odds are, you are going to need to get it programmed to know what keys it needs to accept. You can try tossing in the new module and see what happens. But, odds are, you are going to notice that the car is not going to start and if you look at the center console, you will see a red light come on and most likely flash in an odd manner. If you watch, it will flash a few times, give a slight pause, then flash a few more times, then have a much longer pause. Then it will repeat the sequence (5 times as I recall). The number of flashes is going to relate to a number (the first few flashes will be the first number, the second set of flashes the second number). That will give you an idea of what is going on. Odds are, it will tell you that it is not seeing a good key to start the car.
