2003 X-Type 2.1 L SE Wont Start

2003 X-Type 2.1 L SE Wont Start
I have a 2003 X-type 2L petrol, I returned from work the car started and ran for about 10 seconds the died, and hasnt started since. I was towed home and have started looking at the possible causes. So far :
Fuses and Relays : All ok
Immobiliser and alarm : De arming as it should
Battery : Fully Charged
Engine : Cranks with no problems just doesnt fire
Fuel : 3/4 full
Fuel Pump : Does not seem to be making a noise the back seat if off and the top of the tank is exposed. I have put a Tester onto the power to the unit and when the ignition is switched on there is a 12v supply for about 2 seconds then that dissapears (possible priming).
There is no smell of fuel which i would have thought the would be from trying to crank her over so much. Also there is no Pressure from the Fuel Rail when i have pressed in the valve.
If any one has had a similar problem or has any ideas i would be greatful to hear them.

rossi, you will need to get a fuel pressure gauge. You will need to connect it to the fuel rail and with the help of a second person, when you rotate the ignition key from the OFF position to the RUN (or START) position, watch the gauge. It should jump up to 40 to 50 psi. If it stays down at 0 or only comes up to say 20 psi, then you have a bad fuel pump most likely (especially if the fuel pressure stays at 0). If still in doubt, you can disconnect the fuel line at the fuel filter and momentarily place the ignition switch in the RUN position. You should get a solid stream of fuel out. If it tends to trickle or isn't very powerful, then that confirms a bad fuel pump. If you have a strong fuel stream, then it is possible you have a bad fuel pressure regulator.
Either way, sounds like a fuel issue, not a starter or spark issue. The only thing that would lead me to believe that it isn't a fuel issue is if you get the 40-50 psi on the initial check. Then you are most likely looking at a spark issue. If that is the case, let me know and we can go from there.

Thank you very much for your input. i located the problem earlier today and it was the Fuel Pump like thermo mentioned. But it wasnt just bad it had completely fried!!!!
I was lucky i had a full tank of fuel, if there was less and more air / fumes i believe there would have been a bad accident. I am now speaking with Jaguar about the problem but the unit alone is about £250.
The question is do i now check on the pump now and then or just trust the new one??
