Default 2004 5 speed wont start

I was going to leave a store the other day, and my car started up just fine. I went to pull forward and it jerked a couple times and died. I thought I maybe let out the clutch too fast or something, but when I went to start it back up, it wouldn't start.
It turns over but maybe isn't getting gas. I'm not sure. I did try and jump it just in case that was it. But that didn't help.
I don't know too much about cars, but from what I know it could be the fuel pump? I hope not since that is pricey. Any ideas on what else it might be?
Oh and it's a 2004 2.5 manual

Jarrod, this is an almost impossible question to answer helpfully! The problem might be one of fuel supply, but it might just as easily be one of no spark. Or a fault in one of a number of sensors on the engine. We need more details to narrow it down!

For example, does the engine turn over normally when you try to start it? Do you get any warning lights on the instrument panel? Was the engine hot or cold? Has it ever been difficult to start before? How many miles are on the clock? Has it always been serviced properly? Is it still in the store car park? Would it be possible to get a scanner to check if there have been any fault codes recorded?

Depending on some of all that, it may be that we can give you a useful answer because just guessing seldom gets the best result!

Thanks for the reply.
I'm here with the car right now so let me see what it does.
It does turn over like normal. Never had any issues before.
I believe the maintenance has been kept up with. I recently bought the car with about 120000 miles.
Only put a couple thousand in it myself.
The motor was warm when I went to leave the store. As I had only been in a few mins on my way from work.

I'm trying to find someone with a scanner but no luck so far. I'm going to check fuses first

I checked fuses. They're all fine. I was hoping that would be it.
Anyway does anyone know a place I could borrow a code reader? I really don't want to pay to have it towed to a shop then to my place to fix it, considering its something I can do myself.
Or do some businesses come out maybe, even if for a fee?

Buy a basic scanner! The're cheap as chips! Or get the AAA out?

By 120k miles, the fuel filter should have been changed a couple of times and the spark plugs at least once.

Hmm I guess I didn't realize that. Where would they sell one for a jag though?

It could very well be the battery. Our cars are very finicky about that. Read some posts about that very thing. Maybe you could take the battery out and take it to Autozone and get a load test done to it.

Are there any lights that stay on the dash when you try and start it? Was it running well before that?

As far as the battery goes, I did try and jump it already. That didn't work.
Could it still be the battery?
I went to auto zone. They won't loan it out

i checked on their website, some code scanners are like 40 bucks..
about jumping the battery , i had that issue with my chevy lumina, even when i had it hocked to a battery charger for while it still wouldnt start the car, replaced it from a pick a part yard for 20 and it worked.. so it could be the battery ...

Yes, it could still be the battery. They can go with no warning whatsoever. That is what happened to me. Worked perfectly fine one day, then the next morning I went in to go to work and nothing.
