55th in Drive Power 2007
I saw this on another forum and thought...hmm...interesting!!!
I can certainly agree with the braking and running costs........God I sooo NEED to upgrade those brakes!

Tens of thousands of motorists from across the UK report on the good and bad owenership experienced s of living with their cars
"Jags lowest placed premium saloon scored well for ride and handling, but suffered with poor running costs (82nd) and practicality (77th). And while both could be expected to be weak points for a small exec, 52nd place for reliability and51st for build quality dont make good reading"

Its the figures for braking I can't believe? I've always said that the stopping power is really bad for such a big heavy car! Then again, I spose thats why so many people are upgrading to redstuff and grooved / dimpled discs.
Ride scored best at 14 which is good I spose.........it is a nice comfortable ride for sure.
Still - poor overall![&:]

First off,Jaguars are not for everybody. They are felines and persnikity. That is part of the mistique of the marquee. Stop worring about car magazines. Stop worring about what other people say. If you need a car that everyone fawns over then buy a Toyota! If you don't care what those folks say then buy the car you want....A Jaguar! Sheesh! you didn't buy a Jaguar because it was cheap to buy, own or operate. You knew, right up front, it was a luxury car. It was going to be expensive to operate, it was going to have Jaguar "niggles" and you still bought it. You bought it because you like the looks and you like the mystique and you liked the looks you get when people see it , you like saying "I own a JAGUAR" when people ask you what car you drive and you like people thinking it cost a fortune to own and operate. You bought the mystique of the marqee.... screw what the press says... maybe one day one of those poor dopes will actually own one. Then they will see what it's really all about..... Yeah, i definately agree that many people looking for high-priced luxury make a mistake with Jags. These cars may be big and luxurious, but they're also built to perform. In fact, I'm stunned that 'ride' scored so well - the X can be bumpy as you feel the road and the handling - I love it!
I recently drove an S-type for 2 days and a Mercedes C-series... The S-type was considerably quieter and smoother than the X-type, but it was still 'jumpy' and more sporty than a luxury old-person car is support to be. I LOVED it, but can clearly understand how an old person looking for perfect luxury could be turned off by it. And that was S-type, its only more pronounced for an X-type.
The C series was quiet and rode very smooth. it was nice, but if you want some fun and exhilaration, it won't give it to you. Its fast and handles well, but you don't 'feel' it.
Anyways, the point is Jags aren't for everyone.... Definately for us though.

i think what explains the change in rankings through time is exactly the flaw in these
types of survey. they are not necessarily a real reflection of how the cars perform in
these categories, but rather how they perform "according to the perceptions of the owners".
so of course, in the first few years of manufacture (when in actuality the reliability etc are
actually a bit worse) people find these cars as novel, wonderful, and above expectations, while
in the 4th or 5th years they've lost their "shine" in the market, and there are lots of other
new "wow" cars around, so the owners of the later models have a lower tolerance or threshold of
what is acceptable in general (when in fact the later models are a bit more reliable, and come
with more standard equipment, etc.)
it's all in how people perceive things and form expectations...

Also, there was a survey on the radio that was done (radio was just reading the results) and they ranked mercedes dead last for customer satisfaction, reliability and what not. American cars didn't touch the top 10 they were all imports and the first american car was lincoln with ford following thereafter. I don't know what the pole was but I do know that chrysler was way up there and benz was dead last. Every car has its own problems whether they happen more or often....I'll try to find the article or release...

OK now I'll give you guys a "bennie". I'll put the JTIS CD (Service Manual) for the X-Type up on my FTP server for a limited time (yes it's perfectly legal!). I'll keep it on the server for 5 days starting April 1st. So you can get it from April 1st at 00:01 through April 5th at midnight.
I'm offering this because http://www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm is having problems with their server. I thought I'd fill the gap while they get their stuff together. After April 5th I'll shut the ftp account down. The server is slow, so it's a long download... try in the middle of the night (Leech FTP will let you schedule a FTP download).
You'll need to logon as "JAGdad" with a pass of "Unofficial".
I will not supply tech help! Just *FOLLOW THE DAMN DIRECTIONS*.
FTP: badlight-is-a-geek.net, port 21, use the above username and pass..... good to go!
Cheers
