Default ABS Light on Speedo on and off Engine light on - Resolved

Hello to all. Thankfully havent been here as trusty X Type has behaved for a while. Was driving a few days back and felt a small grind through the brake pedal (which felt like the ABS was engaging in the last few inches of stopping) -
This went away for a while but two days ago it happened again and the ABS light came on.
I noticed the speedo eventually ceased working and on came the engine management light.
Took it to my regular garage who put it on the computer and did a live data collection? which showed as only one of the four wheels working - front NS.
Early thoughts are that we need to change all three drive shafts ie with Speed rings and perhaps ABS sensors which would be quite costly for parts and labour.

Would like to get away with doing just two. Rumour also has it that the speed rings can be bought separately for under a tenner each (jandrcvjoints on the web as around 150 have been sold) leaving mainly labour to pay for which would be great.
Also understand that it could be the ABS sensors and or as well. Hmmm.

Id like to get away with just chaging two of them as I say as I understand that the light only comes on when more than two fail?
Looking for any hints or suggestions - ie which one controls the speedo if any? or is that taken from another place?
Thanks to all for any info to help me keep this great wee car on the road.
Love it and dont want to lose it esp with the winter coming on. Safe driving to you all.

John,

I've put a few line breaks in your post to make it easier to follow.
Could you pop into User CP> Edit Signature and put all your car details in there so we can help better.

I'm a bit worried that the speedo dies.
That might be an instrument cluster fault rather than ABS.

Have a look at these posts on sensor cleaning

and here's the Rev Sam's video
There's nothing to lose by a bit of DIY unless you know for sure (seen with your own eyes) that the rings are shot.

Turned out to be an offside rear Speed ring. Got two from J&R Cv Joints through post for £9.99 each free delivery within 48hours. Pretty Labour intensive job thanks to set up.Very helpful and knowledgeable people at J&R. Thank you to everyone esp admin for putting things in correct places in threads as Im pretty hopeless with these things. Hope you all have a safe hassle free winter. John Mc
