Default AC Leak?

I have a 2006 Jaguar x type AWD 3.0 The AC went out a few weeks ago. I charged it and it only worked for a day and a half. I received horror quotes and ideas of what might be the problem. Some said compressor, some said the control valve ($1500 quote). I had no intention of paying that.

I went to a local mechanic who took his little spray bottle of soapy solution and sprayed the connections after he pressurized the system, after some time he had to re pressurize the system because the air had leaked out. It looked like the leak may be under the fender or worse, under the dash.

He sat down for a moment and then got up and removed the hoses from the ac lines. He sprayed the valves. Behold! The intake valve was leaking the r32. A $2.00 part!

Please have your mechanic spend some time before investing $1000 or more it may be a simple fix.

Total cost to replace valve and charge system…..$60.00

Hawaiiboy, that's an interesting story. I had a new compressor put in last summer, and after not using the AC for the winter, went to turn it on and no dice. Compressor won't engage bc there was no refrigerant in the system, it leaked out over the months. The mechanic shop quoted $800 to install a new hose assembly that goes to the compressor, he said that was the source of the leak. I opted to hold off on getting the work done and brought the car home.

So, I got it home and jacked up the car and I could hear a hissing sound coming from the compressor (car is off). After some inspection I found the source of the hissing, I put my finger over it and it stopped. I tried to tighten it with a socket but it is already tight, wouldn't budge. Please see the picture below. What is this valve thing?
