I have the damn leaking gasket on my oil pan. No way I'm paying $1000 to replace a $40 gasket I'd normally be able to do in my driveway. I spent the last few hours researching this stuff, and it appears to have quite a bit of very positive feedback in its success stopping shrunken, dried out gaskets. Now, of course, it's not going to repair a damaged seal, but I'm curious if any of you have had any experience with it. Amazon sells it for $9, and I ordered a couple of bottles with free shipping. Worth a shot. There are over 150 positive reviews of this stuff, and people on there swear by it.

Anybody else tried it???

I've tried it on my navigator transfer case which had a very small leak on the output shaft seal. It took a few miles but the leak stopped. So I tried it on the x-type to stop the oil pan leak. It's been about 500 miles since I put it in but the leak is still there. So I must have some seal damage there. Again if it's a dried out seal I'll work.

It did on the Navi but not the x-type oil pan leak.

 

It didn't do anything with my oil pan leak. I ended up having to replace the gasket. Massive pain in the rear, but I didn't have to pay the $1k+ to a mechanic. Printed off and followed directions found in the forum. Took probably about 11-12 hours total.

Has anyone, or do you guys know of anyone, just let the oil pan leak? Will it hurt the car if I just keep an eye on the oil levels?

 

It's fine as long as it isn't a large leak and you keep an eye on things. Of course, you won't make your friends too happy if you park your dripping British pile in their nice clean driveways.

I see Jag did their part to make the X-Type as authentic as possible, leaks and all! I particularly love the aroma of burning transfer case fluid being blown in my face when I turn on the CC system.

 

My Land Rover had a constant drip. Wasn't allowed to park in the driveway. I think all British cars leak haha. What if you like put some kind of sealant around the outer edge of the oil pan with a caulking gun?

 

Noticed some oil drips on the engine under my car today when I was working on the coolant (replacing the tank). Not sure if it has been leaking or if it was from when my car overheated briefly last week when the coolant tank broke. I was about to change the oil soon, so I was wondering about throwing in a bottle of stop-leak. Leaking cars really bug me. They pollute the ground and the car will run low on oil. I'm wondering if I should add anything special or just do an oil change like normal. Not sure where the drips are coming from exactly.

 

Guess you already took care of your problem but I was reading from a mechanic if one bottle doesn't do the trick, add another bottle to the next oil change. It may take 2 or 3 bottles to fix the seal. It's also good for rubber seals like o-rings, intake gaskets probably (wish I had known this when I changed my spark plugs), suspension bushings, and transmission seals.

 

I went ahead and ordered a bottle just to try it out. I did have some drips under my pan but last week I switched to high mileage oil, so that may help with the leaking. Got some atp anyway because I'm going to be working on my suspension and I wanted to try putting a little on the bushings to recondition them. They say don't use too much though, just a little spray, you don't want to soak them. Also going to try wiping the o-rings down with some and seeing if that seals up any vacuum leaks. I think there might be a leak from my imt seals, not sure though. Car is making a rattly noise from that area, my guess is that what it is because it seems like the o-rings cause trouble for x-types when they start to get old. Maybe some at-205 will seal them back up so I don't have to buy new seals. Figured I'd split the rest between my oil and transmission fluid to stop any leaks or future leaks.

 

Just an update. I got my bottle of at-205 today. I pulled out the o-rings and kind of wiped them with the solution a few times and let it soak in a little bit and put them back in. Can't tell if it helped or not. All the green paint on the o-rings was wiping off, showing the black rubber underneath. My o-rings seemed a little stretched out. Not sure they were even leaking now though. What I thought would help the noise of my engine due to a vacuum leak, actually didn't go away after I tried the atp on the o-rings. I think it takes like 5 hours to fully soak in, so maybe it is sealing more now. I guess my engine noise is something else, maybe the lifters or rockers or something. It kind of sounds like a baseball card in bicycle spokes when I rev it up sometimes. Anyways, I am also going to try putting some 205 on my suspension bushings this weekend and try to condition them a little. I want to put a little in the oil and trans fluid, and maybe the transfer case and differential if I had more but I only have one bottle. I think my oil leak should be fine though now with the GTX high mileage oil. Where are typical places x-types leak from?
