RE: Auto Starter
I dont want to sound too condescending... but what do you expect us to tell you?
A car starter has much more than a sticker involved. Typically there is a module, a remote control and a bunch of wiring.
Do you have the remote control?
do you know the previous owner?
Have you looked to see if there is a main module under the dash on the driver side?
Have you looked to see if there is any aftermarket wiring hooked up?
Seriously how do you expect a message board to answer your question?
Is your car manual or automatic? what engine? where do you live?
so much info is needed before we can begin to help....

I apologize for the remarks of a fellow patron on here but if it doesn't look factory take it to a shop that works on them and see what they say. I'd imagine you don't know too much about the remote starting systems so take it to a shop and have them take a look. Hopefully that helps while being a little more positive!

RE: Auto Starter
umm.. no need to apologise.... we dont need a message board to tell us to take it in to the shop, we are here to share idea and help each other .............. the idea here is to AVOID taking our cars to expensive repair places.
I know I respond like a jerk sometimes.. but even school kids know the expression "ask a sill question - get a silly answer" I will always try to provide assistance here when I can. But this particular post is a little weak.
I dont think it is beyond grade school todo the very basics of trouble shootingif there is a starter present.
The guy knows it is aftermarket....he obviously recognises the antenna asbeing for a car starter. There is nocar that comes with a remote starter from the factory that I know of.

youch! chill-OUT, grumpy![:'(]
those of us who're new to this sortof thing like to post messages just to get some general direction, advice, and encouragement.
definitely take it into a shop to get it looked at; they'll give you an idea of what it'll cost and take to get that job done.should cost you nothing to have someone just take a look at it (quote).

Well Derek, I assume you don't have the remote control. In this case, I would start by finding the model number of the unit installed then contact Autostart about purchasing a replacement remote control and instruction manual (the manual may be available on line). Assuming the unit still works, which may or may not be the case, it could be just a matter of programming thenew remote.
If you can, contacting the previous owner would be advisable too. Maybe they still have the remote or at least know if the remote starter ever worked properly in the first place.
