Default Boot latch question

It seems the boot latch mech is toast. It does not lock down and I always have a boot open warning message.

So my question is the 2002 lincoln mech the same one that they used on the Jag?

From pics I have seen they look almost identical.

Not sure if they are interchangeable, if the electrical connector is the same, and the mounting is the same, give it a shot. It's not a module or anything, so can't hurt to try.

I have to push my button on the trunk while it is open to make it latch shut, have you tried that? Dash light still stays on but you can push a button on the dash that will clear the warning message. There is a write up here somewhere that explains the fix.

To your question, it looks like no it will not. I did not see any cross over part references, and the pics I see do not look anything like each other, the mounting holes are way off. Unless you are just looking at the small latch and not the entire mech, they look kinda similar. Let us know if you find out please.

I found a junk yard on Craigslist that is parting out a Jag so I am going to run by there today and try and get a few parts off of it. My latch is totally worn trashed, You can close the boot and it wont latch at all.

Have you tried lubricating the mechanism? That would be the first line if attack - and I do not mean with wd40, which is not a lubricant. I mean with something like Rust Check (best lubricant ever) or something similar. You would be amazed at how effective lubrication can be in these instances.

I took it off the car and tried lubing it but there is something wrong on the inside of it. I used a screwdriver and tried to operate it but it does not lock. I had to go to Atlanta today for business so I went to Coventry West and bought a new one.

I also scored a new seat bottom for the rear seat, will install both tomorrow!!!
