Unhappy Boot lock

The boot lid is refusing to close on my 2004 X type saloon,
I suspect the whole lock/housing may need to be replaced -
does anyone out there have experience of changing the lock
- and how hard/easy is it to do ?

Default boot lock

golden Brown, if you mean it just bounces when you try and push it down I had the same problem. For some reason that I can't figure out, the lock closed while the boot was open. Finally realized all I had to do was use the key fob to reopen lock then all was well. Jack

pophen & Jaggyx, Thanks for both your responses to my problem but I think I didn't explain it fully in my original post.
pophen, the boot lid doesn't 'bounce' when I close it, the latch in the lock just doesn't engage when the lid is pushed down and the lock button on the fob doesn't operate the lock at all, this is why I think there may be an electrical (?) fault with the locking mechanism and may need to be replaced.

This fault is as old as the car.
Here is an old TSB or 2.
I have replaced dozens for this problem.

The 2004 should already have the newer latch assy so you should not have to drill holes, just replace the latch and/or actuator.

Nothing to add, I just like it when the sedans are called saloons. Makes me want to climb in and or me a whisky!

Thanks again Bob, I think the problem must be with the actuator, the latch itself seems free enough. I can get hold of one easy enough but is the replacement a straight forward job ?
