Brake not working properly after Brake pads and rotor change
Hi ALL
I just changed rear brake pads and rotors on jaguar X type 2002. Now i have to push brake paddle all the way in and it feels very loose and sometimes it feels like it will not be able to stop the car. I went in and checked everything again, could not find anything wrong. Any suggestions please.
Thanks

RE: Brake not working properly after Brake pads and rotor change
Rajinder, see my post on the other place you talk about this problem.
In short, it sounds like you got an air bubble into the rear calipers.
I normally bleed the brakes by myself, so, what I do is go to Home Depot/Lowes/etc and get some clear tygon tubing (1/4" as I recall, whatever fits the nipple on the calipers). You will need about 4 feet of it. I then attach one end of the tygon tubing to the nipple on the caliper and then route the tubing up to the top of the wheel well. I use some masking tape to hold the tube in place and then allow it to hang down. I stick the other end into a glass jar so I have a place to collect all the spent fluid. I then check to make sure that the resevior is full, crack open the vent nipple and then pump the brakes once. This will put some fluid into the tygon. Note the color. Now, pump the brake a few more times (can normally get about 10 pumps before needing to refill the reservior). Refill the reservior and give a few more pumps. Check the tygonfor a different color fluid to present. Also, check the top of the tygon for any air bubbles. If the fluid has not changed colors or there are air bubbles present, press the brakes a few more times. Continue pumping the brakes/verifying the reservior has sufficient fluid until the fluid changes color in the tygon and there are no air bubbles present.
Keep in mind that you should start with the caliper furthest from the ABS module (ie, driver's side rear), then do the next closer one (passenger side rear), then the next closest (driver's side front), and then finally the one the closest (passenger front). This will ensure that old fluid doesn't get pushed anywhere you don't want it. This will result in all new fluid in your system. If you don't need to replace all the fluid, simply step on the brake pedal about 4-5 times and see if there are any air bubbles in the tygon on the caliper in question. Give 2 more pumps if air bubbles are present and check fluid level (refill as necessary). Repeat until no air is present.

Gravity bleed your brakes for the love of god man. Follow the plan outline above. Furthest from the master cylinder. Crack open the bleeder valve, open the master cylinder cap/top and let gravity bleed the system, top off...close bleeder valve and repeat steps 3 more times and you're golden. It's mineral based oil so once your done, hose off everything and have a beer, or two.
