kalacho, those are very similar to the ones I installed on my car. Installing them is really easy. As for stopping power. Lets just say if you have something in the seat and it is not bolted down, you will wipe it off of the seat if you have to hit the breaks even semi decently. I like the braking that my car has now with the new rotors/ceramic brake pads. The only "downside" I can say is the long vents can make a whooshing sound when braking hard. But, most of the time, you won't notice it.

As for the tool to push in the rear calipers, there is a $10 "box" that you can buy that has a bunch of different posts on each side with a 3/8" socket hole in the center of each side. You can use that to push the pistons back. Just remember that one side you have to turn the piston clockwise and the opposite side counter clockwise. You can also rent a tool from the auto parts place that will do the pushing for you. You can normally rent that for free (with an initial deposit that gets refunded when you return the tool).

Either way, you will need to open the bleeder valve to allow the piston to be pushed back in. So, be ready to catch some fluid that comes out and also to bleed the rear brakes once all done.

As for durability, I am running up on 3 years having them and I am still on the same pads and rotors and I am looking at many more years of use from them before any more work will be needed. I put on about 15K miles a year with my car.

I just ordered something similar today.

I ordered 4 Centric StopTech drilled & slotted rotors and a front and rear set of Centric Posi-Quiet Ceramic pads.

I think that should give me a better bite as well as keep my wheels a lot cleaner!

>keep my wheels a lot cleaner!

That's one of the things I most dislike about my car, the wheels are always dirty. I have the Cayman wheels and the groove behind the spokes gets covered with black goo very quickly and it's really hard to clean it (because it's hard to reach behind each spoke). Yuk

Yeah brake dust annoys the heck out of me too. For some reason the stock brakes dust like crazy, and I almost want to clean the wheels every other day!

These ceramic pads should do the trick!

I've had good luck with the 1521's on the front: http://www.ctbrakes.com/pads.asp
and Centric rotors (also on the front): 2002-2008 Jaguar X-Type Brake Rotors - Centric 120.20017 - Centric Premium Replacement Rotors
I've also double-dutied the front rotors with Carbotechs race pad, the XP10. The 1521's had very little dust and had great stopping power on the street. The Centrics stood up pretty good, considering I really abused them with several, several 120+ down to 40mph braking cycles on the racetrack.
130k miles and I have yet to do the rears...
My setup is a little more money than the eBay ones but do you really want Chinese stuff on your X??

I thought the consensus here was that EBC rotors and Red Stuff pads was the way to go on the X-Type? Or at least the rotors were, with some question as to the best pads.

I know this is very subjective, but personally, I'd never use anything but ATE brake pads and rotors. The braking power is amazing, I'd never trust my life with anything else. I used EBC in the past and I just didn't care for them warming up in order to get maximum braking power, and the noise (the bloody noise) was just too much to bare.

Try ATE, you won't regret it.

There is no 'best rotor' or 'best brake pad' for the X-Type. Brakes are very much a personal choice based on several factors. Simply because a lot of people are successfully using Y setup it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be the best for you. My advice is read up on the different types of pads and rotors, check prices and where they are manufactured and make a decision based on what your priorities are.
I just don't want to see people blindly going on other people's recommendations, especially with something as important as brake components.

I was going to try ATE rotors the last time around (I use their brake fluid exclusively - ATE Super Blue racing fluid) but a friend of mine has been using Centrics for several years doing double duty street and track driving with no issues so I decided to give them a try. I probably won't be getting them again. I'm probably going back to using Brembo rotors or trying the Disc Brakes Australia setup.
