Buying a X-type tomorrow
hey im buying a Used 2004 Jaguar X-Type 3.0 Sport tomorrow and I just wanted to know what should I look at before buying this car. First of all, this is going to be my first jaguar and I know nothing about them. These are the spec and info the seller put.
With that being said, when I check out the car, what should I check out before getting it??
Thanks!

mdxn17, the big thing with this car is to take it out for a drive and listen for a whine from under the car. This is going to indicate 1 of 2 problems. The least of your worries is the centering bearing on the rear driveshaft. This is known to generate vibrations and noises when you get above 45 mph. It will feel like the seat has a vibration mode to it.
The bigger of your issues is the transfer case going out on the car. This will be evident by a whine at most speeds. Beyond that, working on this car is not much different than working on any other car.
One bit of caution I will tell you is that this can be an expensive car if you are looking for something to have fun with. If you like to use power to get off the line, you will more than likely be replacing transfer cases every 30K miles to the tune of about $3000 (USD). The X-Type is a good touring car and is great for getting out on the road and having a nice ride at a constant speed. But, if you are looking for a "sports car", this is not it. You would be better served by getting the S-Type or even stepping up to the XJ. Both of these cars will run you a few thousand more, but will not cost you as much in the long run.
The other thing I would tell you to try is doing a higher RPM acceleration (ie, above 3,000 RPM) with the car. Take the RPMs up to say 4,000 to 5,000. If the car bucks when you hit 3,000 RPM and does not want to go above 3,000 RPM, then there are issues. It is one of the safety features built into the car. I would still say to look into the car as this may be one of those things that you can use this "problem" to knock some money off of the car and then turn around and fix it yourself for fairly cheap in some cases.

Parking brake is worth checking as these are prone to seizing. Bubbling of the window sills due to rusting. If you find issues, these are both bargaining chips rather than show stoppers. Transmission whistle between 25 to 30 mph at low temperatures (1 or 2C or less) could be alarming but is also a peculiarly specific and common feature of the X that doesn't seem to be an indicator of anything very serious, - there are some suggestions on here about how to cure it.

Indeed it is. No deal, damn check engine light came on this morning. His mechanic we took it to said it was throwing a lean code.. Having my Jag mechanic take a look at it Monday to see what the devil is wrong with it.
