Exclamation Can my CAT cause all these Codes and Large Vac Leak

Hello all im new to jaguar forums. Just joined yesterday becuase I need a little help. I have a 2003 Jaguar X-type Cherry Red that I paid for from my grandmother about 6 months ago. In the last 6 months I replaced the valve cover spark plugs and transmission altogether was 7000 bucks. Problem is Im 19. Everyones telling me to get rid of the car and my grandmother even said I can have the money back and she would help me get a domestic car but I JUST FELL IN LOVE WITH MY JAG. How can you not love a jaguar. I told my girlfreind to bury me in this jag. I cant afford jaguars services or local shops anymore so im back to working on my car like I did before I got a jag. When I drive the cruise not available light shines and CEL is always on. when the Cruise Not Available goes away it drives ok but the CEL stays on. It usually jerks and wont allow me to go to 70mph and up when Cruise Not Available is on. Took to Autozone and was told these codes P1000,P1316,P0171,P0174,P0430, and P0300 banks 2,4,5,6. My grandmother never did anything more than change breaks and oil. I am willing to spend time fixing it myself just need someone to point me in the right direction please.

Today I just checked the brake breather hose and It may becomeing from there but I spray Carb Cleaner on it and nothing happens no change in Idle. I also hear a noise comming from around the IMT o rings and that is where I hear the LOUD whitlse when I drive. Please Help GREATLY APPRICIATED

Rose, first off, spend the $6 or so and get 2 new "IMT O-rings". That should fix your P0171 and P0174 codes. If you look on the passenger side of the motor, you will see 2 large black disks with a raised hump in the center. These are your IMT valves (Intake Manifold Tuning valves). Undo the two screws and pull them straight out. The bottom one you will more than likely have to pull out slightly, then stretch the o-ring some to pull it off over the front of the valve. But, these are known to leak and cause a vacuum leak code (P0171 and P0174) and in some cases, even the "Cruise not Available" light. IT may even be causing your misfire codes depending on how bad it is. After that, I would say to spend $5 on a can of "Mass Air Flow (MAF) Cleaner". Then you can remove the MAF sensor and spray this into the sensor to clean out any garbage that may have worked its way in there. The only caution I will give you is to not spray is straight into the hole to the bottom. Shoot for the side of the hole and let it bounce around off of the walls of the sensor. There are some fine wires at the bottom and while they will hand the bouncing fluid just fine, it is possible to damage the wires if you shoot the fluid straight down. Squirt some in, dump it out, put some more in, let it set for a minute or two before dumping out, then give it a final squirt and dump. Reinstall and see what you have.

Lets see what you have left at that point. Then we can start doing some more troubleshooting and diving into things a little deeper. Both of these things you should be able to do yourself if you have even a little bit of mechanical ability.

Can you give me a heads up were to buy them. I have been searching and calling around for the last 2 hours and wasted a ton of gas and money. People seem to not know what IMT O-rings are. I went to Autozone, Advance Auto parts, and Napa.. Jaguar told me they close at 5 so I have to call them tomarrow. What store to get them at and do you know the part number. Please and Thank you

Rose, unfortunately, you can only get them at Jaguar dealerships. So, I would start there and then see what you have.

Thanks I just got them and replace them. The car still reads cruise not available and stills runs a little rough at idle. It did however improve the idle. Its not like the engine feels like its going to cut off or anything anymore. What should I check next.

Rose, clean the throttlebody and the MAF sensor. Then see what you have. Also, do an inspection of the wiring coming off of the throttlebody. A few members have found damaged wiring specifically on the drivers side of the throttle body with the wiring there. But, odds are, a lot of the idle issues are either the MAF dirty or the throttlebody sticking a little bit.

heat shrink over the brake booster check valve to seal it. check the intake gaskets for leakage with carb cleaner and check for change in idle. replaced the pcv hose with the updated ribbed stiffer one. If you still have lean codes(you are clearing them arent you?)
then plug off the brake booster pipe and see if that stops the vacuum leaks as boosters do leak vacuum too.
