Unhappy Cannot turn off wipers

Well this is interesting. My wipers started acting erratically about two weeks ago. The auto sensor would kick on even when the wipers were not on. But eventually they would shut off. Also, I could switch to "intermittent" mode and it would follow that mode. After choosing some kind of "on" mode, I could turn it off, and it would stay off "usually" but occasionally start up again. Now they run almost constantly no matter the setting. I can move the setting to standard wipe and fast wipe, but any other setting seems to be a randomized sequence of wipes from standard speed to some type of intermittent wipe, but mostly a constant standard wipe motion. There is no way to turn them off.

Anyone have a clue?

Even if I could manually disconnect something to just keep them off when it's not raining would be a help. I am looking into removing the R4 relay, but I need to ensure that nothing else is affected.

It seems like bad switch. Find out where fuse is and remove it.
the switch is probably $20 from junk yard.
You can find some wire, going to the switch and install additional $3 switch from autozone.
Start with wiring diagram.

I found a partial solution. By removing the F8 fuse in the engine bay fusebox, I was able to remove the intermittent and auto function. I can use regular wiping however, so this is fine until I figure out a complete solution.

I just saw your reply car5car (Thanks). It looks like we were thinking the same thing. I did find the fuse. Now I need to find switch.

Could it be the auto sensor playing up instead of the switch?

Thanks Steve. Looking into the "Winshield Wiper Motor Relay" as that seems to be a common problem, although it is usually suspected when intermittent no longer works. Will check the sensor itself if that doesn't pan out.
