Default Climate Control Unit

Hello,

The AC Light on the button of the Climate control unit started to flicker on and off for a week or so, I paid it no mind as the AC was still working properly.

Then the AC Just stopped working, blows hot air even with Auto selected or not.

AC Light does not come on.

Clutch does not engage at the compressor, It will not accept a Charge.

I have not checked fuse or relay yet but thinking about it wonder if it might not be a bad Climate Control Unit?

Any thoughts on that?

I will be checking the fuse and relay in a minute because always a first place to start.

I am also thinking about removing the connectors at the back of the CCU to ensure good connection.

Are the CCU's suspect? Is is common for them to fail?

Since the clutch does not engage check the AC Freon 134a gas /
refrigerant might be a leak .

The Climate Control Button activates the relay for the compressor. You can remove the relay and jumper the connection side to the compressor. If the A/C activates then the button has gone bad. You will probably have to replace the panel section as I don't believe the switches are separate parts.Try the jumper and let us know the results.

Thank you for your replies. I did some more investigating, found the fuse for the AC and it was burned. Tried another and burned straight away.

The clutch does spin but, and I will check again before finding a new compressor, it seemed to spin to easily. So I am concerned that the compressor is not well.

Since you cannot buy just the clutch for these I will have to buy a new compressor.

May still have issue with the CCU but at least I have a starting point.

Here is a good link for fuse identification: Jaguar X-Type Fuse Box Diagram » Fuse Diagram

Try removing the A/C relay and installing a new fuse. If it blows then there is a short between the fuse and relay connection. Next remove the fuse and swap the relay for the windshield washer to the A/C slot and reinstall the fuse.If it blows then the short is between the relay and the compressor clutch. Last thing check the condition of the wires around the compressor. They can get rubbed and chafe through.
