Default Code P0171 after changing upper radiator hose

It's only code P0171. No P0174 to go along. I have checked all of the intake and it looks fine. I does seem like the wiring for a 02 sensir just below the hose was in the way of getting the hose in and out.

Where do I look? Did I mess up an 02 sensor wiring?

Thanks

Spike. Odds are it is a fluke that the code came in. Normally when you only get the one code, it is one of the IMt valve o-rings.

P0171 is for Bank 1 combustion too lean. One of the specific causes of the code is faulty wiring to either of the two sensors on that side - where you were working. If the wiring is OK you might have got coolant in the connector.

The reason I am concerned in because it seems like both of those front sensors by the hose got really abused while trying to install that hose. I replaced the IMT o rings and all the intake manifold gaskets over a year ago, so that's not likely te reason for the code.

Thanks for your reply. I thought that code was for the opposite bank. Has anyone replaced those two front sensors? Do they have to be original or is there an aftermarket alternative?

Thanks

The code is indeed saying that the fault is with the firewall side sensors. It has to be your call as to whether to go with the code or your gut feeling for the other side!!

Don't know about the US but in UK the Dealer's price for the OEM item is about the same as a reasonable quality aftermarket one plus it's guaranteed to be the right one.

Spike, have you checked the pcv valve and hose? That would be near where you were working yet give you the code for the other side of the engine.

Default o2 sensors

Spike,
I bought mine off eBay. I paid just about 60 bucks each and were OEM. Plug and go. No splicing. Just make sure you get 2 gray plugs and 2 black ones. I did all of mine so there is no issues about that. The ones up front were easy as long as you have the crow foot remover.( got mine from auto zone for 15. Bucks) the back I took off the intake to make it a lot easier.

Good Luck,
The Dr!

Thanks for your reply.

I m a little confused...do you think that it's possible the front sensors are responsible for that code?

I have. Those are new as well, and are in their proper place.

Default 02 sensors

Denso is OEM . But any will work. Just buy all the same.

Radiator side sensors would give P0174. Note that P0171 and P0174 could also be caused by some other faults!

Air intake leak between MAF Sensor and throttle
Fuel filter / system restriction
Fuel injector restriction
Fuel pressure sensor failure (low fuel pressure)
Low fuel pump output
HO2 Sensor(s) harness wiring condition fault
Exhaust leak (before catalyst)
ECM receiving incorrect signal from one or more of the following components:
ECT Sensor, MAF Sensor, IAT Sensor, IP Sensor, EFT Sensor, TP Sensor

Some of those possibilities seem less likely, noting that the code is for one bank only, but it's an uncertain game!!
