Did you have the ignition on when you disconnected the battery? If so, that is what probably caused the code. Maybe try a hard reset with the ignition off and see what happens.
Was the car running perfectly before the battey failed? When you say it failed, can you describe the circumstance; like was it running fine and then all of a sudden you try and start it and the car would not even turn over?
I bought the car as is from a Lady. Her explanation was vague but after sort of leading her through the incident it would appear she was driving along and stopped at a red light. She tried to take off again but the car would not move but was running. After trying all gear positions without success she tried to put it in Park and a loud chattering noise was heard and it would not go into P position. The vehicle was then shut down and a tow truck called
This happened a few months ago so when I inspected it I had to boost to start it. I can confirm that it will start and shift into all gear positions including J Gate manual positions but will not drive. If I try to engage Park the metallic chattering begins and sounds like a gear not meshing properly.
I have recharged the battery in question and it starts the car and appears fully charged. I will have it tested to see if there is any hidden problems with it.
The P1603 code and notes advise that the TCU has no B Plus so I removed the TCU to check for corroded pins. Nothing found so my next action will be to check the ECU to pin out the continuity or source problem.
Your thoughts and guidance would be much appreciated.
I just remembered the tcm can also act up or go bad from water intrusion. Some posts on here if you do a search on removal and cleaning (works for some, not for others). There's also a good post on YouTube about "waterproofing" module.
with another person in the driver seat...with engine running and foot on the brake.
go under the car, remove the 3 bolts holding the gear selector cover. disconnect the shifter cable and manually try shifting the car.
