Hi, If anyone could provide a part number for the small black rubber tubes illustrated - the ones that are a pair on the right of these photos, plus the one to the left of the aluminium tube, I would be most grateful.
Go to SNG Barrett catalog section. They have a fantastic free digital catalog. Download the X-Type catalog (which contains all variants) and you'll find what you need.
Thanks, but I have no idea what each hose is called, and Australia isn't included the countries named. If I knew the role of the small hoses and what their name is, I'd have a good start....
Okay, the 2 hoses are warming hoses for the PCV. Do these hoses exist on your model?? Anybody? And have you ever changed them? They are moulded to a U shape and are only about 6 -7 inches long, but appear to be different thickness at each end. What I want is a part number. I don't think the hoses that Dell has pointed out are the ones I need.
The PCV on the 2.1 engined model i shown below and the 2 small hoses link to the crossover coolant line:
Not ignoring your plight Yorta2, I want to try and help.
I just haven't been able to find an answer for you so far, despite quite a bit of searching.
I'll do some pipe measurements on mine in the weekend to see what the dimensions are.
Suspect it will have to be an aftermarket part that might have to be trimmed and encouraged to fit.
Thanks, Mate. The hoses on my car are feeling quite soft and, as I just had a water pump drive belt tensioner bearing seize, tear the tensioner pulley and drive belt to bits, cause an overheat (because the plastic bit in the top radiator hose split),. I put in a new tensioner, belt and top hose and I have realised that I need to change a few other hoses before another catastrophe occurs, Oh, the coolant reservoir split on the underside as well, but I didn't find that until a day or two later - put a new one in. Every hose and the accessory drive belt are all original, so the bottom radiator hose and the belt are next. I felt those little pcv hoses and thought maybe they could split and I'd be back in the poo. I really appreciate your help.
How "required" is this part, really? It appears to offer cooling pretty inefficiently it seems to me for the air in the PCV. However, that PCV with the collar for the coolant is no longer made. I'd imagine it would only ever be a clean and replace or salvage yard purchase if it ever went bad. If it were me, I'd just use some length of standard hose to plug these 2 and let that be that. May be worth it to test performance in this manner. Seems pretty low effort and low risk. It may be one of those things to garner only a tiny fraction of performance increase. I mean, I suppose it could be more impacting than that, but I don't think so. I only mention this because it is very difficult find anything related to these hoses now.
Hadn't forgotten, just waylaid last weekend dealing with my mother in hospital with a fractured pelvis, sorting retirement village placement options..
OK, so I took some measurements of my pipe and it looks like the PCV collar end is 1/4" and the top hose manifold appears to be around 3/8".
I was at Repco today picking up some throttle body cleaner to give the XJ8 an overdue Lozenge as it has been clearing its throat a bit at low RPM and particularly when cold, anyhoo took a look along the generic hose rack and saw a Gates 01-0002 heater pipe that might be something you could use by cutting in half to replace the factory odd hoses in a pinch.
It has two pre-shaped bends and the inside diameter is 8mm, so should stretch over the 3/8" and hopefully be able to clamp down to the 1/4" .
Wow, Mate, that is great detective work. I really appreciate that you took the time to do that for me. I will make a visit to my local Repco this coming week and see how I go. Not sure if I need 2 of those Gates hoses or not, but have been averse to removing my old hoses for fear I may not be able to source new ones. I'll get one and make a move to replace at least one. Thanks again for your great assistance. Bill.
One should do, as you can cut it in half so you can then trim to length and use both elbow bends.
Just hope it clamps down enough to grip the 6.35mm spigots on the PCV collar without leaks.
Mate, I have been interstate without the car, but will be back in Nowra soon. I hope to get the courage to separate the hoses soon after, but might leave it for awhile, as I have a few trips to do. Cheers for your interest,
Mark, your find was a very good one.The pipe fits comfortably at both ends. All I have to do now is cut the new one into 2 (correct length) pieces. and change the old to the new. Amazing how, sometimes, there just doesn't seem to be a part number for some of our parts and, if there is, they're not apparent. Soon, all water hoses will be new ones.
Had some spare time this morning, so cut hose, made the two smaller ones and fitted them. Piece of ****! Just had to fit jubilee clips (hose clamps) to the fatter end, but that was simple. Now to watch them for awhile, but they shouldn't leak.
