Default Crazy Alarm!!

Hello all!
Could anyone help?
I have recently bought a 2002 X-Type LE (2.5L Auto)
On a few occasions I have had the alarm (without horn and indicators) sound when either locking or unlocking the car. I cannot understand why it sounds considering all doors, windows, boot and bonnet are shut correctly and no movement inside. (When this happens the alarm sounds for about 30 seconds then stops for about 5 seconds then sounds again at this pattern for about 5 minutes before turning off totally)
I'm operating the key fob as stated in the handbook but still at intermittent intervals the alarm sounds. (It has happened 3 times in 2 weeks)
The worst thing is that I cannot turn off the noise. I can unlock the car, put the key in the ignition, start the car, drive the car while the alarm still sounds.
Does anybody know why this happens and how I can turn off the noise?

Many thanks,

Ty

No this is not it, I dug deeper though the forums and found it to be the passive alarm system (secondary alarm) which has been reported to sound when there's a drop in voltage or a low internal battery for the system. Although I'm not sure it's a battery issue as it only sounds when prompted by the locking/unlocking. I still can't find the resolution however..

I'd start with having your car's battery tested. Following that there may be a problem with worn microswitch on your fob. Have a second key/fob to use?

I've had no obvious signs of battery trouble but I'll try to check.
Both my key fobs have caused the alarm to sound on seperate occasions however the fobs range seem weak and the buttons are 'mushy' ..perhaps it is a fob issue.
For a temporary fix I've removed the fuse for the battery back-up alarm/Air conditioner which so far has prevented the alarm sounding during the lock/unlock

Would the alarm go off if you just lock and unlock the car with just using the key without using the fob??

I'll investigate just the key tomorrow. I will also replace the batteries in the fobs tonight and see if that helps. So far the fuse removal has sorted the problem..

The key fobs can get real dirty and corroded on the PC board. You may find a green goo on the switches. I cleaned mine with some denatured alcohol and a Q-Tip. Soaked them real good and then blew them dry with canned air.

gee56, What do you mean by:'..red leather sports interior and door cards"i guess they are interior upholstery, If that you want, I don't think any body made them, if you want the seats you can try "Recaro" or any other OM sport car or after market, but they're not X-Type, or you can go to an upholstering shop and ask them to do a customer job, it will be expensive.

Update.
I managed to get access to the back up sounder by removing the inner wheel arch lining.
I disconnected the connecting plug which to my amazement was inundated with grease inside. Both the plug and socket had thick grease smothered around the pins.
I de-greased and cleaned both and reconnected. I'll see if that was the cause of the problem..
