Default Door Mirror

Hi, I have an X Type 2003 and was trying to fold the mirrors back.
The whole housing popped off and I can't see how it goes back on.
Any ideas please?

Welcome to the forum Adrian,

Oops!

The Mirror Backcover (item 2), Mirror Head (item1) or the whole thing?

Adrian,

The mirror head should pivot on the base section attached to the door. It sounds like the pivot may have sheared.

Is it Power Park and can you post pics of it?

If you are talking about the whole thing, plastic and metal with the motor broken off the pivot arm you will need a new mirror.

If it is just the black plastic circle part that has broken off the metal bracket there is hope. You must have the painted cover #2 in the diagram and the glass removed. Then you can get some small bolts with some washers and refasten the plastic to the holes in the metal bracket. The plastic was just riveted through the holes in the bracket.

Well, they had sheared completely.
So my fix was to bond the mirror units in place, they obviously don't fold anymore, but taking into account the cost of replacement, this is something I can live with.

Default So They Do Fold? Just Making Sure

Good afternoon. WayneCountyBill here. So, do the mirrors fold back? I have tried to fold mine back, but they are tight and I do not want to break them. Thanks for clarifying.

Depending on spec, your vehicle will have either Standard or Powerfold door mirrors. The Standard mirror pivots against the door on impact to reduce the risk of breakage (see section boxed in red). The Powerfold must be operated by the switch.

Unused Powerfold mirrors have a reputation for sticking on all models.

Default Thanks, GGG

My are stiff...so, I'm not going to chance it and break the mirror. I appreciate your response. I am going to double check to see if I have the power mirrors. Great Forum! Great Advice!
