Sharree: Do you have a diesel or gasoline X-Type? I ask because I believe Jaguar used EGR's only on 2.0 & 2.2L diesel engines more common in European X-Types, and not on 2.5L and 3.0L gasoline engines more common in U.S. X-Types.

Here's a diagram of the EGR system on an X-Type diesel engine:

FYI, EGR's were previously used on gasoline engines to reduce NOx emissions, but I understand this is now accomplished via computer controlled IMT valves & fuel injection on our gasoline X-Types.

Why do you ask about EGR valves?

Thanks for the response! My Check Engine light came on, so I ran a check on it and the code came up it says p0400 code. my car is gasoline. X type, not sure if it is us or European. It misses when you first start it up just like it says it does when the EGR Valve is bad or clogged.

Voltage: This is odd. The workshop manual does not list a P0400 error code, not even for 2.0L and 2.2L diesel X-Types which have EGR valves. And X-Types with gasoline 2.5L and 3.0L engines don't have EGR valves, according to the manual.

Can you double-check the error code(s)?

Voltage: The threads below discuss the P0430 error code and multiple ways people addressed it. I'd pay particular attention to suggestions by Itmax in the first thread. His X-Type mechanical restoration is amazing - see the last thread.

Hopefully you can clear your P0430 code by replacing an oxygen sensor, or running a can of Cataclean thru the gas tank, and don't have to replace a bad catalytic converter:
