Engine Code Problems...
Hello everyone l'm new to the board and to the community of jaguar ownership. I have a questionabout maintenance and thanks for helping.I recently purchased a 2.5L Sport 03 X-type jag with only 54k miles on it (for 9.5 grand). The owner had maintenance records and figured it was a steal due to low mileage and replaced tires etc...The check engine light came on today with engine codes P0171, P0174, and P1796. After searching through the boards l think l can take care of the lean fuel issues regarding the hoses l hope (hoping not anIMT leak)
As for the P1796 code can anyone assist me with information on the repair? I was told this was a transmission issue ....CAN Controller Circuit (Bus Off).... (Kick down switch circuit malfunction). I need to go to to work right now but l will get back to answer any additional info you might need. Thanks again theres alot info on this board but l just couldn't find this one.

the IMT O-Rings are the easiest of all the intake leaks to fix.. why you hoping against it?

RE: Engine Code Problems...
the whole idea of a lean condition is a result of too much un-metered air entering the engine. without metering the air, then the fuel injection computer does not know to add extra fuel and the engine runs lean...
There are for sure a lot of engines out there..... and a lot of configurations.. but in general.. the system in every car I know,,, has Air enter in the front... and on the top of the engine... the final exit is under the car.. at at the back.
to be under the impression that excess air can enter at the rear or under the engine, is really batting against the odds.
I am wrong often enough.. but keeping with the odds and with the averages, help me keep my head above water.
I cant imagine driving down the road.. wondering if the air is entering my engine from behind ...
- just my personal sense of humour.... and YES i am single ...

RE: Engine Code Problems...
Had simialr problems with my 02 3.0 Sport.
Both banks running lean caused by air leak.Eventually found to be this pipe which tooka minute to replace:-
Jag dealer said sell lots of these and with your car being a similar age yours maybe at fault too, as the factory fit ones are thin and tend to split.
The replacement pipes cost around GB£5 and are much much sturdier due to being redesigned to not deteriorate as quickly.
Let us know how you get on.

RE: Engine Code Problems...Update
I've replaced the IMT o-rings (which turned the check engine light off) and am looking to replace the brake boostervacuum lineanyway since its worn. I took it to a import shop to check out the kickdown switch circuit malfunction code and when the diagnosis was complete there was no record of the code being produced by the car. But the Upper/Lower lean fuel code was still there and they quoted $482 for a complete manifold resealing... I thought since the check engine light shut off the problem was gone?
