My X-Types will be collectible to me for the next 20 to 30 years that I am alive, God willing.

What will kill all of the semi-modern vehicles is the electronics. I cannot see a manufacturer making the electronic parts for 30 or 40 year old vechicals to keep them running. Being made with off the shelf Ford parts will be a big advantage for us as the years roll on.

Now add in the cost of $25 a gallon gas and that kills all of our fun. This I can say with certainty, Thank God I will be dead.

Funny - I had the same thought - Keep it - because it's the last of the old-school mechanical cars. Followed by - but wait, will I still be able to get gasoline? and will passerby throw rocks at my beautiful sexy dinosaur-burner when I drive by?

My 2018 XF is a rolling computer with comfy seats in comparison to the X-Type. Ever tried using a 20 year old computer? Oh boy. And remember what a 40-year old computer looks like? Oh my.

but in 40 years everyone else will have Jetson's style transportation Musk-pods, leaving all the collector cars for us!!! Mu-Ha-Ha!

And Jerry's right - this it the most active of the Jaguar Forums - with beauties on parade here to this day - and if we're still talking about it 10 years later - and 14 years after the last one rolled off the line - I think its safe to say it has crossed over into "collectible."

 

 

I've had nearly 40 years in electronics (component level service) and although it is not my daily work these days, I still get sent ECUs, BCMs, ABS units sent my way to repair for many makes and models....some from dealers who can 't get new units for cars, trucks and buses.
It is increasingly difficult to identify, find information and replacements on the weird and sometimes proprietary components to repair these units.
More worrisome is that some modules that are only a few years old have been designed and built with components that were end of production and no equivalents from the day they went into service.

This is only going to get worse, especially with the chip and semiconductor production shortages that will be with us in one product group or other for the next 18-24 months.

Looking at the simplicity of my old Austin..... four pot banger, points, single coil, side draft carburetor and if you get desperate...a crank handle!
60 years old and likely still be on the road for a good number more.

 

If the term Special Interest Vehicle is mentioned in this discussion, I have missed it.That is the adjective I would use for the x-Type.

As a serial collector I have visited the prospect of buying an X-Type at various times and I am considering it presently. I opted for an
S-Type rather than the X-Type the last time around, a compromise I have not regretted. But still the X-Type catches my eye and is getting
easier to justify as an addition rather than an either or.

I buy to keep and pass over many seeking the one. The miles must be low and history detailed with condition exceptional. Only the 2005-2008
considered and likely only wagon, luxury optioned or sport optioned would work. The right piece to that puzzle would in my estimation be likely to hold
its value or depreciate at a much slower rate than the average car purchased at the same price. It might even return a dollar or two over the years.
