How many X-Type estates/station wagons in the US
Driving to work today I saw an X-Type estate. I think it is the only one I've ever seen in the flesh. Are they rare in the US?
From what I can find, supposedly there was only 1602 estate/sportwagons sold in the US between 2005 and 2008. I do not believe that there were any sold for the US before that point.
Yes, but in Canada this model (called the "Sportwagon") was sold from the 2004 model year onward. The 2004 version was based on the Sport model of the sedan, with the sport suspension, large-diameter wheels, sport interior (less wood trim, different upholstery design...), no chrome trim. It did not go over well...so beginning with the 2005 model year the wagon (still called Sportwagon) was trimmed and equipped the same as the top-line X-Type sedan, and with the "comfort" suspension. Much, much better looking, better riding, more luxurious but no manual transmission option.
All of these wagons are in high demand here for their rarity and beauty. I get constant comments of approval on mine, most often with the remark that the observer did not know that Jaguar made a wagon. There are 5 or 6 in our local Jaguar club.

I found five in Cargurus, check a real nice one black on black myself and the price was a bargain up in Ledgewood NJ, plan to come back to trade my Volvo XC70 in few days later, it was sold.

If the Car & Driver article is accurate, then I like to think I am the reason for the extra 2 over an even 1,600
I used to have 3 X-type Estates. Almost 3 years ago a hail storm turned all three into golf *****. All 3 were declared totaled. 2 of them were towed off and I purchased the 3rd one back and it has become my beater car.
I keep an eye on the prices of X-types and Estates. As was posted, there are usually 3+ for sale around the country. Many times, I have almost pulled the trigger on another one when I find one for around $10K and under 80K miles.
Mine still runs well and has been very reliable drivetrain wise, but in the interior, a lot of the plastic is becoming brittle and really faded with all of the plastic is starting to form powder on their surfaces. (I have to keep it all Armor All'd else it looks really sad. The head liner has fallen, and removing the headliner and fixing it is too much effort for a beater car. On the exterior, the top coat is peeling off the front and rear bumpers. and all of the window seals are starting to crack. Besides the hail dings all over it, the things that are needed to make the car show nice are rotting apart. (But it as I wrote before, it still runs well and is very reliable.
Plus, expect to spend $1K to replace a lot of suspension parts. I kept the one I still have because I replaced almost all of the suspension parts, and redid the brakes and bushings. All of the rubber bushings were dried out and falling apart. Mine has around 100K miles on it.
Above being written, The ones I have looked at, with around 80K to 100K miles all exhibit similar body and interior decay. Therefore, if you decide on purchasing one, find one where it has been garaged for most of its life, and has as low as possible mileage. Don't plan on thinking you can purchase one with higher mileage and make it into a show car. It is really hard to find X-type interior parts that don't look old and weathered.
I have looked at and considered purchasing a Sportbrake, and have almost pulled the trigger. Instead, I have been thinking more about purchasing another Alfa Stelvio or a Guilia AWD. Our Stelvio has been a fantastic car based on their price, performance and its reliability to date. Owners of Sportsbrakes who are selling them and asking a premium because they are rare.
My wife and I both like Jaguar "Wagons" based on their low slung suspension, handling, cargo room, and functionality, But I'll tell ya, the Stelvio SUV is a full size performance vehicle that is very nice. It is too bad that Stellantis has screwed Alfa Romeo here in the USA.
