Default I need a new power point for my 2004

My 2004 x-type cigar lighter doesnt work (lighter itself is bad) and I want to replace it with something that will fit in it's place and still has the illuminated green ring around it, but is the smaller US standard size. Any recommends on something that fits the bill? With all the tech stuff out there, there has to be a bunch of people who changed theirs out. I want something that looks stock.

used part from nalley jaguar? Couldn't be more than about $20 - just get the OEM one.

Problem with the existing one , other than the fact it doesnt work, is that it is too big for phone chargers and other crap you want to plug into it. The diameter is too big and I dont want to use an adapter sleeve if I can find a replacememnt that will work without it. That splain things for ya?

Places like autozone sell a replacement with the green light around it. I got one for my BMW last year and it fit all my iPod chargers etc.

Figures, I checked several but Autozone wasnt one of them. I'll check there. Thanks. If anyone has more ideas, let me know.

Mine fits every aftermarket charger I've tried it with. I currently have the OEM VW accessory LED flashlight in there and it fits that perfectly, too. My car is 2004 also. I don't get it.

That makes 2 of us. I do know that europeon lighters were bigger at one time, but I was pretty sure that was before 2004. I have found several that will fit that have an orange light, but havent found green yet.

I literally work in the Microsoft Office product group now, so I recommend PowerPoint 2010 . The in-presentation image and video clip editing alone has upped my public speaking game a lot.

Back on topic...
OP. Can you measure the diameter of your factory lighter socket? I just want to compare with others (mine included). This is a mystery and it is regulated via the ANSI/SAE J563 specification in the auto industry. There are 2 different size categories, but both are within 0.6mm variance so should fit any aftermarket plug with spring loaded side pins.

12-volt cigar lighter receptacle and plug, size A
  • Receptacle inside diameter: 20.93 - 21.01 mm (median 20.97 mm)
  • Plug body diameter: 20.73 - 20.88 mm (median 20.805 mm)
  • Most often used in American automobiles.
12-volt cigar lighter receptacle and plug, size B
  • Receptacle inside diameter: 21.41 - 21.51 mm (median 21.455 mm)
  • Plug body diameter: 21.13 - 21.33 mm (median 21.18 mm)
  • Most often used in European automobiles, and sometimes as a second socket in American automobiles expressly for DC power connections.
This all said, I would still buy an OEM replacement if for whatever reason your socket has been "stretched" to a larger diameter. Used ones aren't expensive and this isn't a mission critical part.

i replaced mine with an oem. cost me $22 from local dealer. When i replaced it still wouldn't work. happens that the fuse is broken. you may want to check the fuse first.
the replacement i got seem to work with all the plugs - big & small. replacement was worth it because the old one was beaten up.

Problem resolved. The lighter in the car is not original (no Ford stamp like the originals). I guess the previous owner was a cigar smoker and wanted the bigger lighter. Anyway, I was able to find a replacement from napa. They were the only ones that could find it with a green illuminated ring. Lots of orange ones out there though. Unfortunately I had to make a filler piece on the lathe to cover the oversized mounting hole he had made. You cant tell now though so it all worked out. Thanks for the help.

Mystery solved. I guess when you buy the Jaguar, you need provisions for cigars and single malts. You'll find a tweed jacket in the trunk next.
