Hi Guys,

I am looking for someone to donate an old, worn out, bad, lower REAR control arm. I think all of the years are the same.

My plan is to remove the rubber bushing (yes I have a 50 ton press, Bridgeport, lathe, plasma cutter, and big *** hammer) and find an inexpensive, quality, bushing to replace the factory one that does not last. This should also help our racing friends.

I will pay for shipping and post my findings here for all.

When you find a way to put poly bushes in them let me know please. I'm sick of having to replace the arms every year...

 

I have not install poly bushing on my X-Type, but I have install them on my Corvette befor, if it's two half type it's very simple to do, but if it's a whole piece with the lips on both ends it's will be little hard but doable, if you don't have a press, you can use a vise, put the bush aligned with the bush retainer on the arm and position them in the vise, turn the handle, use a long piece of pipe, the poly are not sucseptible to the oil like ruber, so you can use some oil or greese, when the bush goes through, put a piece of bigger diameter tub cut about one inch short on the out come side and keep turn the vise until the bush completely come through. I hope this help some

You have to replace these every YEAR? If you have to do that I would guess that you have some other issues with your car. Those arms are a wear item, but they certainly last more than a year in normal use. I bought my car when it was about 3 years old with 42K miles. I replaced the lower control arms in less than a year of ownership when I noticed the rear tires just starting to slant inwards at the top. Six years and over 100K miles later they still did not have to be replaced.

 

Rever - I will post the info here when I get it. Do you have and old are to send me?

Tang - I like the two pice units as I will make a passage way between them for lub to travel (just noch one part) and put a grease fitting on the arm. It is very important to use the proper lub, or they will squeak. (not a good thing to have around cats

Alfadude - I agree that is way too often for them to go bad. Something is wrong. My thinking is that arm should last for 200K+. I do not like paying a good amount of money for something not made so well...

I go through them because I carry heavy loads in the boot. It's not normal day-to-day use like your car would be. I expect in the diesel they'll last much longer since it won't have the same load to carry at the back.

 

Hey Rever! I'm sorry, I replace rear control arms of my X-Type, I thought to keep them to install the poly bushings later, but now I could not find them any more, I must have throw them in recycle bin when I clean up my garage, my garage is a mess, I have to work on my car out side of garage, if you have send the money for shipping I will return it to you, sorry!

 

It was good then that I was out of town working

I'm sure someone else will have the control arm around to send...I hope!
