Default Instrument cluster internal short

Hello guys,

After months of slow investigation of all car module, wiring, instrument panel harness inspection, I have apparently scp internal shortcircuit in instrument cluster (9x43 10849 jc)

I would like to explore options, before going to dealer and him charging me 900eu for new part etc..

I'm thinking of buying used part and save data from old, load to new

Anyone know cheap tool to do that ? Or alternative ?

Perhaps you can have it repaired.

A used one will be challenging, at best.

This answer is readily available in the SEARCH function of this forum......

If you don't have it rebuilt which requires cluster submission with ALL keys to the shop, the only d.I.y. way is ECU, cluster and ALL KEYS from a donor car replacement.

Some people sell kit with full steering column, ignition lock, some, fusebox

Is there a way security went harder on later model 09 like mine ?

Or i just need ecm, gem, cluster and keys( with locks)

Thx

you just need an instrument cluster and the SDD software, the owners in usa seem to be afraid of using the software. if you dont want to use the software then its an engine ECU same as current one ( auto/manual) the instrument cluster and the transponder out of the key fob, you can also change the GEM module and keep the button part of the key fob. but at least you dont need the new keys saving the change all the locks .

without doing each step and noting the screens I cant provide an exact plan of operation the below is from memory

connect a battery charger to the car so the batt does not get low during the session.
connect the mongoose to odb port and select auto read vin
select diagnostics and then electrical and select instrument not working then recommendations and select program new instruments say yes to warnings and select auto .
make sure you have two keys with transponders ( the bit with the key half not the four buttons
insert first key and follow instructions, then second key following instructions
you will end up with two programed keys the instrument cluster will have one of the following
the real mileage of the car read from the engine ecu
the mileage of the new instrument cluster

altering the mileage of the instrument cluster needs the golden key code, or direct connection the the mcu in the cluster and some special software.

Ok thx

I don't really care of wrong mileage as long as it don't trigger some security feature, i don't plan of selling it

I dont really get the part of "key half not 4 buttons", i have 2 full keys of 4 buttons...

I can buy used cluster without any other part

"Half key" = the fob is 2 parts, lower (4 buttons for doors, locks, alarm setting). The top is key with transponder chip (security) that communicates with the steering column security ring (PATS).

Get used cluster, shop has to program the cluster to ECM, then keys to cluster. It is about $100-150 for programming. Mileage will show from "new" used cluster. Of course you need to buy right cluster for your car.
