Jaguar model?

RonnieJoe: I own a 2002 Sport, and have driven and worked on a friend's 2004 Base, aka Comfort X-Type. The tighter suspension of the Sport is noticeable, but otherwise, the differences seem mostly cosmetic. ~99% of the parts are identical and interchangeable. The few exceptions (off the top of my head) are:
+ Struts and shocks are stiffer on Sport models
+ Standard factory wheels are 17 inch on Sport models (also for a stiffer ride), vs. 16 inch on Base X-Types (for a more comfortable ride)
+ Factory wheels are a different design on Sport vs. Base models, purely cosmetic
+ Some cosmetic trim differences: Bumper and trunk accents are chrome on Base models, vs. painted to match the exterior on Sport models.
Likewise, the 2.5L and 3.0L gasoline engines have many parts that are identical and interchangeable.

dwclapp, thanks for your info. I still don't know if my wife's 2004 x type is a sport suspension or not. It has 17 in. rims, painted body side molding and relatively small chrome inserts on the bumpers. It needs new shocks and struts and bilstein has different parts numbers for sport vs. comfort suspension. Bought it used in 2007 and it didn't have any original paperwork. Have tried VIN checking but that doesn't tell me enough specifics. Anybody have any more clues I can use? I drive diesel pickups so this is all new to me. Thanks.

I did read that the sport shocks are shorter than the base (comfort) model shocks. I'm guessing the shocks will have a different length. Don't really have a reference though. Thanks for your help.

If it has the chrome inserts on the bumper ends, it is not a sport, and I am almost sure on that. Mine has painted body side moulding, but has the chrome inserts in the bumpers. It is not a sport model. The sport model has no chrome on the bumpers, at least on the sport models I have seen. The 17" wheels I think were just an option, like my anteras wheels. Please help us, if you know more, but this has been my observation.......Mike
