Jaguar won't warranty my ECU flash...
I took my Jag in because there was a severe hesitation between 2nd and 3rd. After diagnosing, they discovered that something under the intake was restricting air from getting to the engine (intake seals or something?). they said that this was affecting the transmission. good, I guess. no real tranny damage. so they replaced the part(s?) and replaced a leaking oil pan gasket. now they said that they "suggest" I get the injectors cleaned ($120) and get the ECU's (engine and tranny) reflashed ($180). here's my question, do the injectors really need to be cleaned by the dealer? do they actaully remove them and clean them or can I get some type of injector cleaning fluid somewhere? also, when they reflash the ECU's are they just clearing the codes or are they changing actual parameters in the ECU's? if they are, does anyone else have access to do this other than Jag? I don't feel like wasting $180 for some tech to push a few kewstrokes on his computer if it's not necessary. it also bothers me that that is not covered under warranty. their explanation for that was that only things that "break" and have to be replaced are covered under warranty. so I hope someone can help, and thanks for being patient with all the Q's I've had lately.

the computer updates are a frustration to me..
my windows computer practically FORCES me to update software against my will... on the presumption of fixing glitchs and making my computer run better.....
The car dealers seem to think that this is something that customers should pay for..
makes no sense to me.
the update are there to improve things.. why should people that bought the cars early and supported the company be left with an outdated software version.... ridiculous.
even as a used car, off warranty... I feel that I have paid for a car with a good program.. i did not wish to buy a car with old software..

If Jag releases new software for the transmision, it is to fix a problem hence it should be covered by the warranty. I would ask them why the recommed the re-flash and contact Jaguar for their opinion. (I dont have a Jag yet, but this is what I would do)

If you have nothing wrong with your ECU, don't worry about it. If you feel you need to be updated....go for it.
As for the injector cleaning, no they don't remove your injectors, it's a machine that they hook up to your fuel rail and using a special chemical designed to break up carbon and clean the injectors, they force this detergent through the injectors at high pressure. They run it for approx15 to 20 min. very noticable differance if you have not been using the proper fuel or just drive in the city never exceeding 50 mph for 30 min or more....

I bet they will! I got tire and you wouldn't think that a Belle Tire (tire place in michigan and few other states) would have difference in tires but they were 160 bucks different for a set of four. My buddy bought 20" rims from them and they wanted 2200 at a store in fenton, mi and at the store about 30-40 mins away wanted 1600!!! Rape is a crime!!!
