i was about to suggest that as i just read your check engine light was not illuminating at all...surprised no one else picked that up.

on many modern cars, if you try to remove the CEL to hide a problem, it will render the cluster useless and throw the car into security mode, so a burned out led would likely do the same thing

great you got it fixed, what was the cost?
