Talking Just Checked my Transfer Case Fluid not Good

Hi I am a Newbie here.
I have a 2007 Jaguar X-Type, Automatic with 117,000 miles. Made for USA market. Bought it used was a lease with 17,000 miles in 2009
I have changed my Oil and Filters (Air,Fuel) regularly. I have even Drained off 4 Quarts of Transmission Fluid Twice in its life even though it is a "Sealed
for Life System". I used Ravenol ATF JF 506E made in Germany. I bought a case a few years ago for like $14-$15 a Liter. Supposed to be the Real Mccoy. I didn't want to pay $50.00 a liter at the dealer.
I just Replaced the Cooling Fan Control module. The fan wouldn't stop after car was shut off one night of course. Fan on Full Blast. Tempermental little Kitty! . I showed her some love installed a new Gates FCM134 Cooling Fan Control Module From Rock Auto $280.00 US.
Bought one of those Chinese Copies of the Control Module $40.00. Didn't work right had different amount of pins on the Main Cable Had two blade electrodes and one Pin in the connector. The original had two blades and two pins. The Ad
said it was for a 2007 Jaguar X-Type. They Lied! . It just turned the Fans on Low. May have done the job didn't want to overheat the engine. Had to open my wallet just a little wider. I may open up that Chinese one up. Probably has wires going straight thru!

I just checked my Transfer Case. I had been having a noise the last couple of years. A whining when cold. that would go away quickly lasting maybe a minute or so. Looked on Forums and Internet and people we saying you needed
to Lubricate Driveshaft Carrier Bearing (Propellar Shaft Carrier Bearing) with some grease. It didn't go away. Some people on the forums said it didn't go away either. It is really my wife's car so i get to hear all the noises ect. I do drive it ocassionally though. When my wife hears a noise in the Jag. She just cranks the tunes a little higher. She might mention it to me later. Hopefully she won't start hearing voices. When I checked the drain hole on the transfer case I used ramps. When I took out the pipe plug the was about 1/4 inch of fuzz and sludge on the magnet. No liquid at all came out to my horror! Maybe some would come out if I jacked up the car on the Passenger right hand side. I thought that noise was a front wheel bearing different noise from the whine sort of a growl. Can't be much in there. Scary! I plan on filling it with at least half a liter and using it a little and drain and fill it two or three times.

Help any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bill

It only takes about 3/4 of a pint; at that mileage it is well overdue for a change.
Repeated changes would be a good thing.
There is a thread on here somewhere on how best to do it.

Couple of ways = the "tilt car to drain, then tilt car to fill" or how I did it. But it needs to be done yesterday not longer.

mariner1234: This thread has a video and pictures showing how to tilt the car both directions to drain and fill the transfer case:

I changed my transfer case oil back in July. I followed the video and all went well. Tilting the car so high (22 inches or so) was uncomfortable so please use jack stands to be safe. So far it has worked well with the new fluid.

I was just curious with the car tilted 22 inches how much fluid came out. My X-Type has a 117,000 miles. Never change the TC fluid before. I have drained and refilled the Automatic transmission twice once just recently. No fluid at all came out of
mine when I removed the plug in the TC. I had up on ramps in the front. The ramps lift it up about 8-9 inches. I will try it on the Tilt today or tomorrow.

Right, ramps won’t work. I used two jacks and jack stands. I was extra careful because the recommended 22 inches looks uncomfortably high. First on the US passenger side to drain and then in the US drivers side to fill. You also should stagger how you jack it up and lower it to protect the integrity of the frame. That’s what I did.

I think about 200 ml came out. However, I used a hand pump to pull out as much as possible. I got about 400 ml out in total I think. I then pumped back in as much as possible and tried to close the nut as quickly as possible. Hard to say how much stayed in, but I was satisfied it was as full as I could get it. I think the capacity is 550 ml. I think a previous owner had filled it at some point because fluid came out when I opened it while on the jacks. With 113,000 miles I’m sure it would have been bone dry if it hadn’t been filled at some point.

I also did the rear differential case (all wheel drive) by following a video from the same guy. I used Royal Purple gear oil based on what I read on the forums, but seems like there are other brands that are favorites also.

Make sure to wear gloves. That gear oil has friction modifier in it. It stinks!
