Question Key fob circuit board

Hi all,

when I bought my X type from a lovely older lady I was told the spare key fob had a flat battery. Unfortunately its more than that. I've just replaced the battery and the fob didn't work so I took it apart again for a closer look. A part on the circuit board is broken, not something I can fix.

So, my questions are;

Can I buy just the circuit board?

If so will it need to be programmed by a dealer?

If not what is my best option?

Cheers,
Mike

P.S. I'm in Australia, south east Victoria

I did try a search, but on the X-Type section, I'll try the main page next as you suggest. You're sure there is an answer about the circuit board in Australia?
No offence but that's a bold call

Cheers,

Mike.

It's on main page, X type forum, search, advanced search, input key fob. Short answer is no circuit board is available. You have to buy a replacement key fob with the correct mhz for your country, have it programmed to your car after having tibbe key cut to your car to start it, and program fob (either by dealer, key maker with equipment or by process in forum) to get buttons to work which is separate from the "antennae" programming to start car.

The other option is buy a replacement key, look in forum and online of how to open the fob (not easy and needs care), take your old antennae out and replace in the new fob. This will eliminate having to have it programmed to start the car. The tibbe key still needs to be cut correctly and the buttons programmed by one of the 3 mentioned methods.

$16 shipped from ebay key blank with remote. I removed remotes from keys and switched them. My X got sold before I programmed remote.

For once, he has given good advice. In Australia you will find the key fob for X Type Jaguar on eBay for around AUD $26.50, but make sure you order one with the transponder in it (cheaper ones often are only a shell). As above, all you have to do is put your key into it to replace the new blank one and then you will find the info on how to r- code the new fob on Youtube - only a few minutes job. Have fun.

The big trick is the security transponder/antenna in the fob. You could possibly buy one of the Ebay fobs, remove the circuit board from it, and install it into your existing fob. The transponder/antenna is located in the same half of the fob as the key. My X-Types are a 2007 and a 2008, I don't know if there's any difference between their fobs and the 2002.

Good luck.

The transponder is actually a little "pill" looking component in the upper portion of the fob. It can be removed and put into a new fob with tons of CARE. You can't muscle it.

the key fob pulls apart, the bit with the buttons has the PCB, the PCB's are available for eb*y and can be switched between the two frequencies used. if the key works the lock but not start the car then the transponder needs to be programed, transponder is in the bit with the key blade.

Mate, have you sorted this yet? I've been away, so am tardy in replying to your last post. There are plenty of key fobs on eBay in Australia and only 1 provider that I can see has that thing about not supporting 2003 X-Type. All the others do, and I reckon it's one of the other Jags that it doesn't fit. The others all say their key fobs fit, as long as yours looks like the ones shown, and not some other after-market one. Just buy it from China and try it - not much lost but plenty gained on the deal. Remember to check YouTube for the simple programming stuff.

Yes mate, or nearly, thanks to Grant I have a circuit board due in a day or two from Sydney. So when I get it I'll pop it in pair it and Bobs your uncle

I must have looked at a dozen or three and I only found a couple that didn't say "2003 not supported" Those ones where double, or more the price, I guess we had slightly different search results.

Thanks,

Mike.

Hey mate, where's the car? I can only help with keys, nothing mechanical. Hope I'm not coming across rude but to cover myself i'll want to see something to show that it's actually your car.
