Knocking Suspension

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and new to Jaguar ownership. I just purchased my first Jag, it's a 2001 x-type 2.5 sport. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the car, but I do have one annoying niggle.... the rear suspension. There'sa sort of hollow knocking noise over most bumps from both sides of the rear of the car. It sounds to me like it's maybe worn suspension bushes or something, but does anyone have a more informed diagnosis?? Anyone else experienced this?
Many thanks!

there is a suspension link to change, it has a swivel joint at one end (noise is the swivel joint, not the bushing - not a shrub (bush) either - haha) . not expensive.. simple bolt on part. with the multi link suspension i get the names of the various links mixed up. The dealer knows which one it is. it is about 8 inches long, tubular, about an inch in diameter... be careful how you ask for it hehehe.. "hi there, can you please gimme your 8"tube with all speed, I need it for my rear end.....!"
sometimes the bolts give trouble, best to have new ones for the job. I did mine at home, and it took away the taxi-cab rattle.

nice, i'll be on to the dealer tomorrow then!! [sm=thanx.gif]Thanks so much. The car is great, but just let down by that noise at the moment!
As for my description of the parts, I'll be very careful... I don't want any surprises!! [sm=smiley36.gif]

Just managed to call the dealer today. They seem to think it's the rear control rods that need changing... apparently the joints at either end wear and knock. Unfortunately they can't look at it until Monday 17th, so I've got it booked in and I'll let you know what they say then. Apparently, according to the dealer, if it is the control rods, it's a pretty quick & (relatively) cheap fix.
Fromwhat the dealer said,it sounded just like bojangles' description.

I changed the rear ARB bushes on mine but although better wasnt cured.Laterthe rear lower control arms were changed and that sorted it.They have bushes in them which when they wear need the arm replacing.I think it was £50 or £60 to buy each arm if I remember.

Thanks for all of your replies... took the car in yesterday, and you were spot on! They replaced the ARB bushes, and the control arms. Thankfully, the noise has now gone, and I'm no longer driving what sounds like a NYC Taxi Cab!!

It was a little expensive, but I expected it to be honest... I've never found a "cheap" car dealer! Total cost was £295 (£89 for labour, £162 for parts, & £44 tax - theiving government!!! [:@]). Still, the problem is fixed (for now), so can't complain too much I suppose. Rattles, knocks, and bangs really bug me!!

89 pounds is a huge amount for the work involved.
the suspension links are 2 bolts each, the bushing the same. 8 bolts total.
with the car in the air, it was probably no more than 20 mins work. Jag_genius says the bolts sometimes put up a fight.. but 2 hours worth of a fight? hmm...

Had to get the oxyacetylene torches out to free the ARB bushes on mine.
PITA
Recap:-
Bolts were seized solid when I triedto do the job but then got car inwith the heat guns out and eventually replaced. The car feels a lot better now with no harsh vibration from the back anymore.Jag charges £30 for each of the 2 bushes got mine from http://www.jagspares.co.uk/Manners/p...no=C2S10234%23 for half that.
