Default Locked keys in x-type trunk

Last night I got out of my car, and popped the trunk with the switch under the license plate. When I grabbed my bat bag out of the trunk i dropped my keys in the trunk, with the car unlocked. I never locked the car (wouldnt be able to manually lock it or lock it with key while the door or trunk is open) Right away realized what I did and went to open trunk back up and it won't open, and doors locked. I was able to get into the car and unlock the doors but the switch on the trunk still does not work.

My car is not present.. is there a key hole on the 2004 Jaguar x-type? I have a locksmith that will make me a key that will unlock the doors and trunk but won't start the car.

I got a key made from a local locksmith that was only for unlocking the doors, wouldnt start car. I was able to use it to unlock the doors which allowed me to pop open the trunk. I went back to the locksmith and had a chip put in and had to cloned so it now starts the car. It cost a total of $105 to do all this, and i now have a spare key.

Sounds like a good price for the key and labor.

When I went to NP02 (New Product 2002 X-Type) service training in 2001 I asked why there was no mechanical lock for the boot and if you were locked out how to get the lid open if electrics failed. The answer was to drill the left tail lamp with a hole saw, break out the lamp enough to reach in and grab the safety release handle.

I actually had to do this 1 time at the dealer because a tail lamp is the most inexpensive part to damage for entry.

Heck yeah that sounds like a great price! Wonder if he'd make another set for me, too. LOL

If the car is unlocked just push the Jaguar face on the trunk and it pops right open. I just got into my 2003 X-Type that way.

This doesn't work on my car, and hasn't since I've had it. The button presses, but doesn't open the boot even when the car is unlocked.
Anyone know how to fix that?

Mine too. Fortunately I no longer have back seats so I can just climb in and pull the safety release. It would be nice to have a working button though.

More likely than a button failure (IMO!) is that the Blue wire to the switch from the GEM is broken from years of flexing where it passes through the flexible tube from trunk to cockpit.
