So yesterday I start my car to drive to work and the engine light came on.. I didnt notice any difference in the drive to work just that the light was on. After work I ran a few errands and when I was on my way home the light wasnt on when I started my car. Weird.. I know im due for an oil change and my coolant is somewhat low and the temp was around 100 here in california... any suggestions if I should look into this?
My car is an 02 x-type 2.5, 5 speed.. has 68k miles

 

Sounds like a Vacuum Leak, have you replaced your INT valve gaskets?

 

honestly all ive ever done is change the oil on my jag.. never had any issues at all until now.. i did look under the car and the oil pan looks like it may be a little wet.. whats the cost on the valve gaskets replacement?

 

The INT Valves are on the intake, they would not cause an oil leak. If you have a 2002 you probably still have the yellow gaskets which were prone to leaking the new o-rings are green. The O-rings themselves are pretty cheap under $20.00 for both. The INT valves are those black plastic caps on the end of your intake. I replaced them myself it only took about 20 min.

My car exhibited the same symptoms when they started to go bad and it had around 75k miles. Get a code read and see if you have any stored codes. If it is running lean on a cylinder bank than it is most likely an INT O-Ring
