RE: need help!!! should i buy a 2002 x-type?
i would like to contribute with the following:
* trust your heart. when you buy something, that you really like, you won't regret. when you make compromises about your feeling, then you will remember that every single day you get in a car you don't really like.
it took over a year for my wife and me to decide, because there are some things to consider, but now we are very happy with the purchase (styling, interior, brand).
* unfortunately, there are some complaints, especially for the years 02 and 03 here in that forum. it seems as if ford hadn't finalised "design & development" in that years. but: what you read here, is the worst selection of failures you ever can get. this means you are in an over-informed status, that doesn't reflect average-reality. additionally: for most of the problems the company can provide technical countermeasures (there are a lot of service instructions), and maybe most of them have already been sorted out by your predecessor - if at all they had occured on your car.
* so, summarised: if you like the brand, the colour and the seats, take it.
* however: i have to admit, that i am driving a 2006 model, which is nearly identical to the 2002, but brandnew.
* there is a very intersting post in the british forum: http://www.jaguarforum.co.uk/viewtop...er=asc&start=0
up to my impression, it expresses reality. here is another one: http://www.jaguarforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2358
regards, and all the best, andreas

RE: need help!!! should i buy a 2002 x-type?
You know, to be honest, I didn't go looking for a jag when I was out "shopping" for a car. I was actually going to buy the 05 dodge charger (5.7L tire smoking beast)....test drove it and was very happy. The dodge was my baby......so, the sales rep started the paper work....and while he was getting all the crap in order...I go to the boy???s room to tinkle....and when I exited, just down the hall, I saw the front end of this car that I had no Idea what it was. I decided to go have a look since the sales rep wasn't back yet. There she was....sitting under the lights, me looking at her, her looking at me......those sexy headlights seem to pierce my soul. I knew right there I had to have her......didn't know a thing about it....never really thought myself as a jag man....nor did I ever think I was, let alone afford a trophy car such as this. But, none of that seemed to bother me. As I sat in the cockpit, the seats seem to fit just right, the layout of the dash, instrument cluster, radio controls were all made for me. I had to go on a test drive! Out on the track they had a 2.5L manual. She did well, but after driving the dodge's tire smoking 5.7L, the 2.5 was not cutting it, no matter how hard I pushed her. She had the styling, sex appeal, but the power just wasn't there. Asked jag sales rep if they had any bigger engines....the 3.L was the biggest...so, off to the test track again in the 3 point oh.......wow, that .5 made a difference. No tire smoking power, but the performance factor shot up tremendously. I was in heaven. Mind you, that the dodge guy is now looking for me and I hear my name being paged.....the Jag salesman calls him over and promptly takes the paper work and starts where he left off. (Embarrassing as it was, I have no regrets...to this day)
I didn't know a thing about Jag and I didn't do my homework, didn't care what others had to say (and still don't). I just had to have her. The dodge had tremendous power, but that's all she had, power. The jag has AWD, sex appeal, styling, exceptional cornering, beautiful front end and rear! The Dodge has gas guzzling thrust. The jag takes the 5.7 off the line! (Weekend racer...) but smokes past you after 60+mph. So what....Jag still looks sexy coming in second place....I get all the looks.....
Long story short, bought my 05, 3L auto fully loaded sport package and am a happy man!
Performance parts are hard to find, but the ones that are out there are worth it. I did some tweaks to mine to make her stand out from the rest....but then again, not many jags on the road to have any competition.
I got the automatic and am very pleased. Driving a mustang manual for 3 years got old real fast and didn't want to go through it again. Granted, the power curves are a bit different between the manual and auto, but I found that if I keep the sport button engaged, and manually shift with the J gate, I get the best of both worlds.
Make the decision boy...nobody should be telling you want to do....you decide from the facts presented since you'll be behind the driver???s seat, nobody to blame but yourself......(for not getting her)
