just had the bulb go on the p/s of the 02 left hand drive.
does anyone know any tricks to changing this without yanking off the bumper??
there really isnt must space in there, but i bet if my 5 yr old nephew knew how to hold toold he could get his hand in there.

im waiting on better pics of whats around that ares, but i think its the a/c thats in the way.

so does the bumper have to come off??? or and i do this the normal way.

 

I've tried forever to get to it without taking the bumper off. I couldn't manage to get the cover off enough to fit my hand in and replace the bulb.

 

I just manage to do it with out taking the bumper off. It's such a stupid design.

 

You can pop the clip off the cover with difficulty if your hands are not too big. But getting the clip back on afterward is probably impossible to do bare-handed. I have a stiff wire with a hook in the end that I use to pull the clip back up to the cover. It is a really bad design.

 

I've done mine without pulling the bumper even with my huge sausage fingers. It's precision work though.

 

So no tricks to loosed something and gain a little more room.
Dealer wanted over 600 to change the bulb...bunch of crooks...
Just changed the headlights on my cts took 30 min and my buddy broke his fingernail right off...besides that its was a smooth job lol

 

The X-Type is one of the most inconveniently engineered cars I've seen. lol

Dealer wanted $67 to replace one of the license plate bulbs...

 

Exactly! I was able to stuff a mitt in there to change the bulb and refit the connectors but getting the clip back on the cover necessitated the invention of the "fishing for the clip and pulling it back" tool.

 

I recommend taking off the engine cover. It gives your hands a bit more room. Still a bitch, but It can be done. Getting the clip back on is nearly impossible by hand, if you really care, try an angled screwdriver.

 

I replaced all low beam + high beam bulbs last week. High powered 100W bulbs instead of stock halogens. Local dealer charged my $125 for the work. Perfectly sealed. No water or vapors inside. $600 is crazy!

I even waited while they did it. Took it to Rosenthal Jaguar in Tysons Corner. Place where I bought my x.

 

got it done. those hoses and a wiring harness make it a bit of a pain.

 

600 BUCKS WTF ARE THEY DOING. You can buy a headlight for that much. If your paying 600 it better involve some playoff tickets and a dinner.

 

On eBay you can get 2 headlights shipped for $650!
