Default Performance Engine Chips

Does anyone know a thing or two about performance chips? Has anyone encountered/used this one:

JAGUAR X-TYPE GF Peformance Chip

Please send a link if you know of something that works well...I'd like a little more bang for my buck (fuel economy!)

Thanks!

If you do a forum search about these magic chips ("magic beans"?), you will find many posts and almost universal agreement that they are a waste of time and money.

You drive a Jaguar. It is almost perfectly designed and tuned for a balance betwixt performance and decent mileage straight from the factory.

A clean air filter, nice clean fresh 5w-10 Castroil, properly inflated tires and a soft shoe on the pedal should get you at least 25 mpg or so on the freeway. City mileage simply sucks, but such is the nature of the beast.

Drive slow past a store with a lot of windows in the front and just look at yourself and the Jag in the reflection. It does a lot in taking the sting out of the dollars spent at the gas pump!

These cars are meant to be driven low and slow. Add one extra horsie under the hood and you'll be buying a new transmission before you know it!

As harry and bruce have said. This is not geared to be a "fast" car. It's faster than your average car in stock form, but it was marketed as the "poor man's jag" so it's really not the fastest. The chips out there that claim a 20hp gain for $50 are complete bogus. I bought one, took it apart and there was no connection between what I was supposed to solder to my ecu. Jag got the most power it possibly could out of the 2.5 and 3.0 and there's not too much that will give you extra power. Also, the extra power means more torque on your transfer case which cannot take that force.

Thanks everyone for the heads up. I love my X-Type (even with the quirks), i was just hoping to up the fuel economy a little. I tend to drive very conservatively (usually get 25MPG on the back roads on my way to work), so this seems to be in line with what everyone is recommending...

Peace!

That particular one, used sparingly, will keep your snake from squeaking when he moves or help free up a rusted snake. (lol!)

So you feed incorrect information to the ECM, which delivers the wrong fuel & spark for the actual operating conditions.

Bad news...

Oh for Pete sakes, thanks!

Which one of you wants to explain to Proncess, the Jag will never achieve 40mpg or 350hp?!?

>44.5 mpg

But of course, that's with an Imperial gallon

But 35.6 mile/US-gallon is still pretty good...
