Default Plug missing its mate

I have a two wire connector that I am not able to find other wires that it plugs into. It is directly below the throttle body and the cable is not very long so it much connect some where close. See pictures.

I saw your question already this morning, but as still no one answered, and went out to my X-Type to have a look and I will hazard a guess:
Firstly a question: Does your car drive norammly without those 2 connectors being connected?
If my guesses hit the bull's eye, then probably not...

Did you check, if the connector-receptor UNDER the throttle body is connected to something, or should the connector on your second picture go in there. This would be the connector-receptor of the throttle body butterfly adjustment motor. This connector receptor "usually" disintegrates due to the very high temps in the engine compartment - that plastic can't take the heat... - and this would explain, why that connector has fallen out.

And a pure guess for the second connector: There is an inline connector even deeper down below the throttle body. That inline connector has a cable connected that goes thru the "valley" (of the V6) and I think it comes out on the other end to that sensor (or whatever it is) that sits on the fuel rail...

It's a guessing game until you let us know your model, model year, engine size and in this case, the color of the wires, as images can be misleading, especially if a wire has a main color and a trace color.

There's only one connector isn't there?

My bad! It is a 2004 X-type 3.0L. The color of the wires is solid white and solid orange according to my wife since I have a color deficiency. :-)

Electrical Guide on JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource shows connectors, wire colours and much more.

I've had a good look through the electrical diagrams and been unable to find any pair of wires matching what you've got.

The only item that comes to mind in the area you show (now that my last X type has gone!) is the evap system purge valve. In 2004, as part of the wiring update, the purge valve was moved from the fuel tank area to the engine compartment where it sits on the bulkhead/firewall, just inboard of the brake servo. It's small and solenoid operated and has a two wire connection on the underside, but the wires are meant to be Orange plus Green/Blue according to the drawings!
There should be 12v on one wire when the engine is running; the other wire is connected to the ECM that controls operation of the valve
Worth a look

I was just under the hood of my 2005 3.0L and looked around that area. The only 2 pin connectors I see are the one astromorg mentions on the evap purge valve and a strange 2nd one that plugs into nothing. In my case it plugs into a mating cap, no electrical connections at all. That cap is clipped to the wiring harness. The color of the wires and the look of the connector don't match yours but it is a 2 pin connector with no connection in the same place so I'm suspicious it is the same thing.

Most likely something that got deleted from previous year or for a sensor on a European car and is only included so the same wiring harness can be used worldwide, something like that.

Thanks dh53 and thanks to all the others for their suggestions! I think dh53 is correct since I have not been able to find where is goes and he also has one that doesn't connect anywhere either. I know an engineer who worked for John Deere and he was tasked with making one particular engine simpler and easier to manufacture. He found a gear that had been installed on it for years without any purpose what so ever!

My car has had a lot of wires cut and things disable instead of fixing things right. I feel much better knowing that it isn't something important.
