Default Possible Ecm problem

I have a 2004 X Type with 300 engine. It ran when I first purchased it, except it was in limp mode. I was told it had computer problems. I was also told that I could get around programming another ECM if I could come up with another ECM with matching fey fob and instrument panel.

I would like to know the specifics on this procedure and qualifications the replacement parts must have. Thank you.

Read on Jaguar SDD and Mongoose Cable. It will allow you to program modules on Jaguar.

Here's a link to some Virtual Images.

Here's a link to a cable that worked for me (it is a clone of the mongoose) and worked with Version 130 of SDD. I also have the real mongoose but it won't work with my older software for some reason.

Often that is incorrect so before you chase the wrong part who exactly said it and with what evidence?

I'm totally with JagV8........what's the saying "trust but verify".

Perhaps you should first consider spending a little bit on a suitable code reader......you will no doubt get plenty of use out of it in the coming years and it will save you plenty of time and money in the long run (far more than you spend on the reader purchase).
You should then be able to start to see what the possible underlying issue(s) might be.
Limp mode can be any number of things from transmission communications, throttle position sensing, exhaust emission errors etc........it is a common mistake to assume the problem is in the big brain every time.

You can then ask for some help by posting the codes in your thread and the forum membership will help you to sort and decipher the codes - before you start ordering and changing potentially unnecessary expensive parts.

Brilliant.....OK, lets break those codes down.

1637 - a CAN bus open circuit failure where the ECM believes it is not talking to either the ABS or TCCM (traction control - DSCCM).
If you haven't yet downloaded the electrical schematic...you probably should so you can identify the correct plugs, pins and wire colours to to trace.
Go to the stickies at the top of the X-Type forum page and you will find direction as to where to download the schematic for your year.
CAN bus wiring is generally carried around the modules via a pair of wires, one green and one yellow.

1643 - Again another CAN bus error, ECM to TCM (transmission control module). This error could be open circuit or short circuit.

1532 - IMT 2 (upper intake manifold tuning servo) possibly disconnected or not being detected by ECM.
